Hunting 101 - Class 4 (Wednesday period 7)

When the students entered the Danger Shop, they found themselves standing on the side of a deserted highway at night time.

John was leaning against the same black car from the last time. "Welcome to Lone Pine Highway. The one mile stretch beginning just past that curve has had an inordinate amount of disappearances, going back decades. There have also been stories, told by people who've travelled this highway, about seeing a dark sinister figure on a black horse. Some of the stories go so far as to talk about the figure galloping after them brandishing a sword. Digging deeper into the area's local folklore, you would find a tale of a highwayman hung on a tree somewhere along this road back in Colonial times. His bones are said to be buried among the roots of the tree.

"Your assignment is to lay this ghost to rest without getting yourselves killed or injured." He looked around at the gathered students seriously. "Unlike the last ghost you faced, this one is very aggressive and dangerous and will attack you on sight. Keep that in mind and act accordingly.

"Also unlike last week, I'm allowing you to decide how to group yourselves in going after this ghost. You can pair up with whom you will, or even go in groups of three or four, or if you're feeling particularly brave -- or foolhardy -- you can attempt this alone. Although," John smiled slightly, "I wouldn't reccomend the latter.

"You'll find a large assortment of weapons and equipment in the trunk of this car; when you have chosen your group, choose what you think you'll need to defend yourselves and get the job done."

John leaned back against the hood of the car with a grin. "If there are no questions, you may begin when ready."

Blair listened to the lecture and then looked over the contents of the trunk. Figuring out the best weapon for the job, he reached for it before snatching his hand back. Gun-toting wasn't exactly normal behavior.

Instead, he stood back and looked around casually, really hoping that he wasn't going to have hug somebody to prove a point.

"Did it bite you?" Luna asked as she began to study the trunkinated objects.

Oh look, someone who knows Blair!

"No biting guns." Blair replied, giving Luna a smile. She was pretty harmless. "Do you want to be partners, Luna?"

"I imagine biting them would not be fortuitous either." She picked up a bag of salt and placed it into her pocket. "I have not one objection to it."

John looked at all the shinies!!! weapons, judging which would be the best to take to have maximum potency and minimum encumbrance.

Shotgun. Salt. Machete.

Perhaps a partner or a group.

Setsuna immediately extracts a katana. Of course, there are no nodachi. Bastards. She looked over toward John. "Care to pair up?"

Nothing like patching a friendship together than going off to slay a ghostie. It's gotten her and Mana out of so many little tiffs before... And John worked with guns. Like Mana. So she figured it would be a workably familiar match.

John was currently weighing a folding camp shovel versus a long-handled shovel for weight and weaponness.

"Hmm?" He glanced up at Setsuna. "Uh. Only if it's not awkward. You any good in a fight like this? I'm used to unstoppable human-sized tanks, not evil cohesive wind."

One of Setsuna's eyes slid shut. Comments like that weren't going to help with the awkward. "I do this sort of thing for a living, John...I think I'm good. But if you think it's going to be a problem, I can find someone else..."

Enough hiding from the scary new things. And they are. New. And scary. And really weird. And...

Enough! Hot lady. Needin' a partner. Oh, yeah. Time for the man to get his swerve on.

Sokka smoothed his hair back and gave Liz a big smile as he rummaged around in the trunk. "Hi, there. Wanna be buddies?" he asked smoothly.

He came up with a a heavy fireplace poker, which he stuck in his belt; matches, lighter fluid, and a canister of salt that all went into his bag; and a shotgun, which he shouldered with glee. After a few seconds of lip-biting thought, he also tossed a bunch of shotgun shells in his bag.

"Meg?! What are you doing here?" he asked.

Edward rooted around the trunk for a bit. Partners? He wasn't good with this whole 'team' thing. He looked around after securing some lengths of iron.

Wyatt was glad for a distraction from the real demons in his life. "Want to team up?" he asked his roommate.

"Sure," Tannim said. He began digging through the weapons in the car. He pulled out a crowbar for himself. "What do you think we need?" he asked.

Parker started picking out her equipment-- shotgun, salt, and road flares as well as her lighter-- and checked around for a partner.

"Oh, hell yes." Parker grinned at her, and said, "How are you doing? I've been kind of hiding out."
