Detention - The Danger Shop (January 27)

"You're all here because you're bad, bad little children." He looked at Deadpool. "And bad, bad little masked professors." He looked at the lottery winners. "Or because you have bad luck. Whatever. Shut up and get in the maze." He pointed to the rest of the Danger Shop, which was set up as a giant hedged labyrinth. "Leave any weapons you shouldn't have anyway over there," he looked pointedly at one or two of the detainees. No, just one really. "Take a packed lunch." He pointed to the bags. "You're gonna need it. Get in there, complete the four tasks along the way and get the prize off the thing guarding it. Or you could sit there and look like a girl and get detention again next week."

"Oh dude, you don't have to believe in us for us to exist. We're just kinda there, you know? Well, okay, so we interfere from time to time, but we figure over the ages people will stop blaming us and start blaming, I don't know, plate tectonics or some jazz like that. Not that plate tectonics don't exist, because they do, but it's mostly the side effect of old Zeus-daddy having a bad day. Or a bad bowling score. You ever bowled before, Your Highness?"

"Well you get a heavy ball, probably make out of marble or something, and then you throw it down a slick alley to try to knock over ten pins. You should try it out, Your Highness. It's a game of skill and cunning. Hey, if even the boss likes it, it has to be good. Kind of like skeeball, but I hear that's someone else's department. So what do you like to do in your free time? Because me? I'm into pretty much anything as long as there's people involved. I'm a real people person. What can I say? I like to talk and you need people around to listen or they're wasted words."

Zuko frowned, it was starting to show that this thing liked the talk. "Talking is a waste of time."

"I disagree, Your Highness. Talking can get you whatever you want. Talk to someone enough, or say the right things, and they'll be putty in your little mortal hands. Of course, if you say the wrong thing, then you're pretty screwed, but that's why you have to learn to master the gift of the gab. I don't know where that saying came from, but I like it. It has a lot of alliteration in there. I like alliteration, and that other thing that's like alliteration but uses the other sounds in the word, not the first letter."

"It's all about ego, baby. Stroke the ego and you're golden. Well, not literally, but maybe in some cases literally if you piss the wrong god off, but if you keep them satisfied and give them what they want, they'll usually do a good turn for you too. Gods get easily depressed though. It's not easy being responsible for every living being on the planet. Not that my family's responsible for it all. There's a whole bunch of others who do their thing, and we do our thing, but in the end we're all responsible for the mortals and that's kind of a drag after a while. We need pick-me-ups. Oooh maybe Hades will come to a support group if I organize one."
