Tremble Foolish Mortals: The Gods and You , Class Three [Period 5, Thursday]

When the students came in Ares was sitting at the front of the room throwing energy bolts at a number of scurrying action figures, whenever one connected he would start giggling in a most ungod-like manner.

When he finally noticed his class, Ares stood up. "Firstly, I would just like to say that anyone who wants detention for the rest of the semester just has to mention last weekend, white leather, or the L-word."

"Now that we've got that out of the way, Today we are going to be talking about Zeus and Hera, the King and Queen of the Gods, and my parents, so no disrespect from you brats."

Aphrodite	If the class had been paying any attention to Ares, they would have noticed a blonde woman appear in a brilliant flash of pink light and glitter behind him.
Ares	Ares stopped mid-sentence. "Oh, no."
Aphrodite	Which would be when the blonde tackled Ares with a hug. "Ar!" she squealed happily.
Ares	"Aphrodite," Ares replied flatly, returning the hug awkwardly. "What are you doing here?"
Aphrodite	"Visiting you silly," Aphrodite replied.
Ares	"Why right now?" Ares asked. "Can't you see I'm in the middle of class?"
Aphrodite	"I can see that," Aphrodite said and waved to the class. "Hey little dudes and babes." "That's why I'm here, I hear you were teaching a class about the fam and thought I could give my bro a hand."
Ares	"And how exactly do you propose to do that?" Ares hissed. "They're vicious little vipers who won't listen to the Goddess of Love."
Aphrodite	"You willing to bet on that?"
Ares	"Sure," Ares threw his hands in the air. "Why not?" "Kids," he pointed to the class. "This is my sister, Aphrodite, Goddess of mumble. Play nice with her."
Aphrodite	"Okay, little groovers," Aphrodite, addressed the class. "I'm Aphrodite, Goddess of Love. Now I know what you guys are thinking, how does she get her hair like that? The answer, my friends, is well, Goddess." "Now some of you dudes have the look of being weetiny warrior dudes and babe, and that's cool, but I know that there's often a perception among the sword and leather types of Love being weak," she said. "And I'm afraid that that can't be further from the truth." "Don't believe me?" she said. "Well, you've obviously never seen the results of unconstrained uncontrolled, overwhelming love, or lust as the case may be, why I remember the time someone-who-shall-remain-nameless got hold of my baby boy Cupid's arrows..." Aphrodite stopped as a wee glittery lightbulb went off over her head. "Dudes, I have has the most bodacious idea, instead of me telling you about this kind of thing, we're going to demonstrate." She turned to Ares. "Bro, you got a class list?"
Ares	From over at his desk where he'd started drinking heavily when the lightbulb went off, Ares gestured and the roster appeared in glowing letters.
Aphrodite	Aphrodite clicked her fingers a second list of names appeared next to the first. "Okay, student dudes, you see the name after yours?" Aphrodite asked. "For the rest of the class, you are madly, deeply in love and-slash-or lust with that person, and you want nothing more than to be with that person, not dirty. Okay, you're not really, but I want you all to act like you are to the best of your abilities." "Got that? Rock on."

Valentine stared at the list long and hard from under his desk, and then he looked around the room very carefully.
Partly because he was trying to place a face to the name of the person he was supposed to lust over, and partly because he feared for his life, having not one, but three people who were assigned to lust over him.

Isabel waved weakly. She was still trying to deal with the fact that Anders was going to be pursuing her.

Valentine waved back, took another nervous glance around the room, and then executed a spectacular across-the-floor butt-shuffle toward Isabel.
One couldn't be too careful, after the sort of week it had been.
"You're Isabel, then?"

"I am. And the way I see it, you have to be either Steerpike or Valentine cause I know just about everyone else," she nodded. "And I don't bite by the way."

"I'm Valentine," he replied with something of a nod before looking around the room and finally getting to his feet. And really only because his knees were getting sore. "And after the sort of week that it's been, one can never be too careful."
He looked back at Izzy thoughtfully. "I'm supposed to be lusting after you. Or something."

"Around here? Ya think?" Isabel snorted. "Trust me, after the weekend I had I know the feeling. We can keep this whole pursuing thing low-key. There's less a chance of mental trauma that way."

"I like the way you think," Valentine agreed with a nod. "This is me. Uh. Pursuing you. Avidly. You couldn't swat me away with a stick if you wanted to."
He took a seat back on the nice, safe, floor, and proceeded to be... not lusty.

"Oh no, it's low-key but not that easy," she chuckled. "You're pursuing me. Hypothetically, how would you get me interested?"

"Hypothetically?" Valentine looked up from his spot on the floor and tilted his head. "I would probably do something... ooh, shiny, with a... charming. And... Things."
Because Valentine was ever the charmer.
"I don't know. What sort of things do you get interested in?"

"Shiny, charming, things? That's a start." Isabel thought back to when she and Greg had been dancing around one another and all the blushing they did. "I suppose conversation is one thing. So I can figure out if we share any interests. After that it would signs that a person listens. Like, would you turn up with a mocha and my favorite muffin one morning? Stuff like that."

If Valentine had a notebook handy, he would have been writing "mocha and muffins" down.
Instead, he just nodded a little. "Right. Conversation. Muffins. What next?"

Cameron checked his list again to make sure he hadn't misread. "I don't suppose I can pretend you're a girl?"

Valentine stared at Cameron and shook his head.
"No, I don't suppose you can. Not unless I can pretend you have a real face."

Cameron frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your face," Valentine replied with ease. "Everyone here has a face like yours, except for myself. But it's about as unsettling to me as having to hit on a boy is to you."

Alanna sat down next to Valentine.

Anyone sitting down next to Valentine was a rather novel thing, given that his butt was firmly planted on the floor.
But at least it was a familiar face.
Even if she had been assigned to 'lust' over him for the rest of class.
"Hello, Alanna," he said from his safe spot.

Alanna didn't mind sitting on the floor. She did mind the assignment. "So....how are you?"

"Cowering," Valentine offered with a shrug. "Look, I'm not too into this assignment. I'll not tell anyone if you don't want to... uh... Yeah. It just doesn't seem... educational, to me."

"Oh totally agreed." Alanna said quickly. "Please."

Valentine nodded and leaned back against the legs of the seat behind him. "Fair enough, then. We can pretend that you did a fantastic job, I've been wooed, we're all happy, the end."
He offered her a sly smile. "Some class, hm?"

Walter looked at the list. Okay. He had the guy who wore a mask and juggled.

Right.

"Valentine. I thought you and I were going to juggle together?" Share interests, right?

"I haven't seen you about," Valentine replied smoothly from his safe place under the desk. "Still interested, Walter?"
He'd be more amiable to this if he didn't know that Walter had been assigned to 'lust' over him.

Walter smoothed out his trousers and sat down on the floor next to Valentine's desk. It was for "love," after all.

"I've been busy moving up to the fifth floor. I'm almost done now, though. You and I should get together soon."

"I've been busy being turned into someone who wasn't me, having my clothes turn into pie, and being beat on by my own balls. Uh. Juggling balls."
He had to clarify.
"I only have classes on Mondays and Thursdays. If you can find a good time, I'll be more than willing to juggle with you."
Juggling didn't have to be romantic. So long as the conversation remained on this track, Valentine would survive the class.
