Engineering 101, Wednesday Period 2, Lesson Three, January 24

Geordi smiled as the students filed in to his classroom, he was seated at his desk but once his students had sat down he moved around to the front of his desk and sat on the edge of it. “Good morning,” he greeted the class cheerfully once the noise had quieted down.

“Today we’re going to have an overview of the different engineering disciplines,” Geordi explained, “as you can see from these, sheets, there’s quite a lot of them. We’ll be covering some of these in more detail throughout the semester,”

“Now for this class I would like you to pick one discipline that will not be covered in the syllabus and write at lease one paragraph on the field, describing what it is and anything else related to it that you feel is relevant,”

Ami wrote a very nice paragraph
~~this is not the handwave you are looking for. wait no it is~~

Single paragraph? Pffft. Willow worked on pages of material about Agricultural engineering.

Jamie copied off Willow's "paragraph" by looking over her shoulder.

Except his paragraph was actually a paragraph and it didn't have so many big words.

Willow may have adjusted her papers for ease of copying. Or maybe she was just making them better situated ergonomically speaking. Hard to tell.

Oh that Willow! She's such an enabler!

One might wonder where she picked the habit up from.

Peter wrote more than a paragraph but ~~much, much, much~~ less than Willow on combat engineering and why good sappers were important to any army.

Broots spent five minutes writing his paragraph and 15 with slightly more illegal tasks on his laptop.

Tannim wrote about automotive engineering and the importance of racecar driving in the advancement of safety and performance features.

Lucas' paragraph was more like Willow's pages and pages, only his was on software engineering.

Peter wrote a couple pages about genetic engineering. If he only had a bit more time to work on investigating his own biology, he would have written a term paper.

John wrote a paragraph detailing android/cyborg details and how to identify, and inquiries about classes on how to blow them up better.

Willow had lots of notes to work with. She was happy.

Bridge? Toooooooooootally avoiding looking at either Peter or Willow. Yup.

Which was a shame, because Willow waved at him.

Bridge was in the midst of... totally not looking at that spot on the wall over there by Willow when he happened to see her wave. He kind of 'meeped' internally and then waved back hesitantly.

Willow passed over a note.

I have something for you.

She can't kill him in class, right? Public place and all. Also his curiousity gets the better of him so he writes back.

Notes!

Bridge frowns in confusion. Notes for wh- oh. He'd missed class last week. Right! But if she was offering to help him out then maybe she didn't know about the weekend?

Peter spent a lot of time staring at his desk and trying to diagram bridges and roads and how to undermine castle walls.

Really, he wasn't uncomfortable at all. Just not meeting the eyes of anyone. Which had nothing to do with anything. Really.

Broots was trying to get a something unattached from his leg. A talking, robotic something.

John took notes, doodling things like robots and giant electromagnets in the margins.

He's there if you need to speak with him

"'orry abot missing last week," Cally said approaching Geordi.

Geordi nodded, "that's quite alright Cally," he replied, "are you feeling better?"

"Other than the jaw, 'es sir," Cally said. "Anyway I can make up my absence?"

"We covered a history of engineering last week but you can ~~handwavey~~ come by my office after class to get the handouts, and I'd recommend getting notes from one of the other students," Geordi told her, "that will be sufficient enough,"

Cally nodded. "'ank you, sir."

Bridge approaches Geordi for much the same reason as Cally had. "Sorry for missing last week's class," he says sheepishly.

"That's okay," Geordi nodded, "like I told Cally we covered history of engineering last week, I have the handouts in my office that you can ~~handwavey~~ pick up after class,"
