Hunting 101 Class 3 -- Wednesday Period 7

When the students entered, they saw John sitting at his desk and two tables set out at the front of the room. One holds the sign in sheet and a pile of handouts. The other holds a number of curious items.

John waited until all his students had filed in and taken their seats.

"So last week you faced your first senario with a ghost. Nobody managed to get themselves killed and everyone eventually managed to take out the ghost." He leaned back on his desk. "Even more impressive, no one took out the house as well. Two things it's always good to remember: don't burn down a house while you're still in it. And ghosts can turn incorporeal at will. You can't set them on fire."

John pushed away from his desk and went over to a side table where a number of items were laid out. "There are however a few things that you can use when fighting a ghost that actually do more harm to them than to you. Iron temporarily disrupts a ghost's energy. Anything you can find that's iron -- some crowbars, fireplace pokers, cast iron frying pans -- " John had examples of each of these and held them up in turn, "can be used as a weapon against a spirit."

He the frying pan down and moved down the table where he picked up a salt shaker. "Salt is probably one of the most versatile weapons a hunter can have. Salt circles can be used for protection against not only ghosts but demons and some other evil entities." He put the shaker down and picked up a small crystal. "Salt can also be used offensively and rock salt such as this is the easiest to handle. It disrupts a ghost's energy much the same way iron does. Rock salt pieces like this or some larger, can be thrown, either by hand or using a weapon such as a sling shot." He moved down the table a little bit more to where there was a pile of much smaller crystals. "Smaller crystals such as these can be useful as well, when packed into shotgun shells." He picked up such a cartridge also sitting on the table. "You've heard of buckshot?" John grinned. "Well this is ghostshot.

"And it's not something you can just buy from any sporting goods store. You have to make it yourself." John handwavily demonstrated how to load shotgun cartridges with rock salt, explaining how as he went. When he was done he headed back over to his desk. "All the information we've discussed is covered in the handout you took at the beginning of class, including a list of steps in how to reload shotgun shells. Feel free to come up and examine everything, and try your hand at making rocksalt cartridges. Also I'd like to know how much experience and how comfortable each of you is with firearms, so I can set up balanced groups for next week's practical."

[OOC: wait for OCDs are up! Have at it! :)]

After hearing Parker's response to the firearms question, Chris leaned over to her. "Hey, does a big sister's responsibilites extend to helping her little brother learn to handle guns?"

"Completely, if said little brother wants to learn." Parker smiled, and cocked her head. "When is good for you?"

"I have class tomorrow second period and then I'm free the rest of the day. And I'm free all day Friday, but I have a date Friday night," Chris said. "My weekend is free, too."

"Friday morning? Around second period? That'll work best for me." She smiled, and tilted her head. "Are you going out with Jo again?"

Chris ducked his head and smiled. "Yeah. I wasn't sure if she would even ever talk to me again after this weekend," he admitted. "But she agreed to go out with me on Friday. And, yeah, second period works for me."

"That's cool. Why, who were you this last weekend, or should I pretend I didn't ask that and just move on to yay, date?"

"I was me," Chris said. "But some alternate universe evil version of myself. Wyatt was evil, too, and we weren't very nice to Jo. She's willing to give me another chance, though."

He shrugged. "What about you? Did you get caught up in all that?"

"I'm glad. It's a good rule of thumb that possession equals forgiveness around here, but you can never tell will be over the line for some people." Parker smiled, then sighed. "Uh, yes. I was someone named Rita. Who was, well... insane."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm... I wonder if insane is worse than evil," Chris mused.

Re: Check out the exhibits

"How evil are we talking? Rita ended up in jail." Parker rubbed her face and sighed.

"Wyatt and I robbed a liquor store on the mainland," Chris admitted. "But we didn't get caught, thank god."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker shook her finger and looked mock-indignant. "Bad Little Brother. Always rob at least a convenience store. Did you give the money back?" She sighed. "Rita was not as smart as she should've been, as well as crazy and a bit evil. Thank god she didn't run into *you* guys and try to talk you into committing grand larceny with her."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"We stole booze and... um... drank it," Chris admitted, blushing a little. "Oh, that would have been bad."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker started laughing. "Very, very bad, because it sounds like you guys were more teenage than Evil. Rita would've talked you into five to ten in a maximum security prison, and you're both too pretty for that." She shook her head. "You okay with it now? I've been possessed-- god, I've lost track. At least three times. And that's not counting gremlin bites. You handling the weird okay?"

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think so," Chris said. "Summer forgave me for being a dick and Jo is giving me a second chance. Luckily I didn't run into too many people."

He gave Parker a curious look. "Possessed three times?"

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Very lucky," Parker echoed. She frowned, thinking. "Maybe it was only three times counting this weekend. Possessed by Titania, Queen of the Fae-- that was during the Spring Play. Turned into ChaCha, a kind of slutty convent student, because I ate cookies Sam Carter cooked. Rita this weekend. I was a housemaker called Carol and I thought I was Broots while under the influence of gremlin bites. You end up either hopelessly confused or very, very sure of who you are after a while here."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris rubbed his forehead. "So thinking I was some other me is pretty mild in comparison."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"You might have actually *been* him, Chris. My hair was longer. A couple other people physically transformed too. Whatever happened, yeah, it could've been worse. As Zero pointed out to me, at least we had opposable thumbs." She grinned. "Do you know if she caught you on camera?"

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now that you mention it, my hair was longer, too," Chris realized. "And no, I'm pretty sure I didn't run into Zero at all."

"You really lucked out." Parker shook her head. "Congratulations on surviving your first Fandom weirdness with no arrests or public records."

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"So far, at least," Chris said nervously. "Apparently Jo's mom is in town and was going to talk to Principal Washburn though."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"That bad, hunh?" Parker shook her head. "Well, she can't kill you. And if Jo wants to give you a second chance, hopefully her mom will be okay with that." She raised her eyebrows, lips twitching. "Let me know if you need someone to watch your back, though."

Re: Check out the exhibits

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, we were pretty big jerks to her," Chris admitted. "But I hope you're right. And I appreciate the offer."
