"Good morning. Your satchels are under your chairs if you haven't found them yet. They are yours to do with as you wish. Try not to lose them. First things first - now that you have your tools, I hope that by the end of the semester you won't need them. Having objects at your disposal is handy, but more often than not, you won't conveniently have what you need within reach. You'll all have to learn how to adapt to your situation, use what have you have around you and rely on your wits and strengths. Your best chance at taking on a villain, in a hypothetical situation of course, is to make the most of yourself. Not everyone can have powers, but we all have the opportunity to learn skills. Learn as much as you can and you'll be well prepared.

But there are three pieces of advice that I hope you'll always heed - invest in a pair of comfortable shoes, always wear clean underwear and keep your eyes open for allies and friends. They appear in the most unlikely of places.

Now I won't be lecturing much in this class. I'd simply be repeating your handbook. It's there for supplementary reading and to have on hand if you want to know anything. I am also available for any questions and any extra help you might want to seek out outside of class. If I'm not available, your TAs Z Delgado and Seely Booth will hopefully be of some help.

Next week we'll start to get our hands dirty in some practical situations. This week we'll keep to the basics. What I want you to discuss today is what makes a villain? How can you distinguish between a regular criminal and a villain? What makes the difference between a villain and a supervillain?. Answer one, or all. Discuss with each other. Argue, if you'd like. No fisticuffs, please. Your handbook has one answer and you can rote learn it, if you'd like, but a big part of dealing with villains involves using your own judgment. Start using it."

Z checked out her shiny new stuff. And looked like just-kidnapped hell.

"Rough night?"

"I was, um, kidnapped for most of the week, ma'am," Z said.

"Are you alright, considering?"

"Yes, ma'am," Z said. "I'll be fine."

Tori spotted Z and smiled slightly. "Hey, how are you doing?"

"I want to go back to bed," she said honestly.

"I can imagine." Tori admitted. She was still a bit tired from all of the action last night. A nap after class sounded good.

"Oh, so you heard about what happened?" Z had been kind of out of it the night before, and was kind of unaware of who might or might not have been there beyond Parker and Anders. Parker because she terrorized Mora for her, Anders because he picked her handcuffs.

"Heard and experienced it first hand." Tori smiled slightly. "Those Krybots sure like to run in packs." She knew the bruises were going to appear soon.

"Yeah. Thank you, though!"

"Anything for a fellow ranger and friend." Tori smiled sincerely. It counted that Z was in line to be a ranger; once a ranger, always a ranger.

"Yeah, I probably need to apologize to Bridge since apparently he wasn't wrong about that." Z looked sheepish.

Tori raised an eyebrow? "Wasn't wrong about you guys being rangers?"

"Yeah," Z said with a little shrug. Then she winced because ow, shoulders. "I figured there was no way in heck they'd let me be a Power Ranger."

Tori grimaced when she saw Z wince. She knew she must be in a lot of pain.

"Why did you think that?" Tori was curious. "If you don't mind me asking..."

Z said, "Maybe because I'm a street rat and a convicted criminal? Convicted by SPD, even."

Luke kept shooting her worried looks when he thought she wasn't looking.

This being Luke, he wasn't all that subtle about...well, anything.

Z rolled her eyes at Luke one time when she caught him looking.

Luke immediately schooled his look back to polite disinterest.

Then stuck his tongue out, trying to make her smile.

Z giggled and stuck her tongue out back at Luke.

Luke grinned, then passed her a quick note.

Artoo's figured out hot chocolate on the food thingie. Have him make you one later.

Z perked up and passed back a note that read, Artoo should have a foot massage attachment. Then he would be perfect.

Luke choked back a snicker.

Artoo has a pretty healthy opinion of himself already. Add a foot massager and he'd been unbearable.

Z snickered herself. I can imagine. It's very...beepy.
