Tremble Foolish Mortals: The Gods and You , Class Two [Period 5, Thursday]

Ares was lounging in his chair, feet up on the desk when the students came in. Once everyone was seated he stood and started lecturing.

"Afternoon, class, firstly I would like to inform you that I am taking detention this weekend, I plan on making it very memorable, and I would be pleased to add any of you to the festivities. Today we are going to talk about a subject very near and dear to my heart," he paused. "Me. Ares, God of War."

"Since I realise there is nowhere near enough time to cover this subject the way it deserves I am going to let you guys direct the flow. I am here to answer any of your questions about me." He sat back down and grinned. "So, ask away."

Secondly, Ares has numerous fiendish tortures lined up and is quite willing to throw students into detention at the drop of ~~an OOC comment~~ a hat, however, please bear in mind this is AU Weekend and those of you with a decent grasp of Hercules canon should have a good idea of what's going to happen to Ares.

"There was no realising it," Ares replied, barely resisting the urge to roll his eyes. "I have always known what I am."

And Ares had absolutely no compunctions about posing to his best advantage. "I was born, in the closest manner to your mortal births as gods have, and I have it on quite good authority that as babies go, I was quite adorable."

Rikku made a humph sort of noise. And couldn't keep herself from asking a question.

"Have the people that you've oppressed ever come after you?"

"I'm sure you were." Jack smirked and leaned forward, not to get a better look, of course, just to show he was paying attention. "Does that mean there was another god of war before you, or did the world have to make do with divinely unsanctioned wars until you were ready to start doing the job?"

Isabel might possibly have a bruise on her forehead from headdesking during Jack & Ares conversation.

"What are you most proud of?"

"No," Ares replied cheerfully. "Since I've never oppressed anyone, that's never been an issue."

"Oh, there have been other gods of war," Ares replied. "I'm simply the most charming. You see, mortals have always had conflict, I just help keep things running smoothly."

"You said last week people killed each other to make you happy. How is that not being oppressed?!" She folded her arms.

"Huh." Between the distraction provided by Ares himself, and the puzzle of what he'd just said, Jack momentarily forgot that their teacher was just an alien with delusions of grandeur. "How does that work?" he asked curiously. "If there's more than one of you? How do you decide which god gets which war, or tribute, or worship, or whatever it is that gods get? Or did you just get rid of all the others when you took over?"

Ares grinned. "Xena."

"I didn't force them to kill each other," Ares said. "Nor did I force them to worship me."
