Home Ec, Tuesday, 1 period

Today the class room is set up with gas stoves on each desk. The desks also have frying pans, spatulas in every version possible, small sharp knives and a cutting board. There's also a collection of food, just in case you were in doubt of what today's lesson is all about. About 36 eggs, chili, bacon, tomatos, olive oil, butter, green peppers, yellow peppers, red peppers, sausages, cheese, ham, pineapple, oranges and nacho chips.

Emma is standing in front of her desk. It looks a little like all she's wearing is a white apron. On either side of her are boxes. One is full of aprons, the other has recipe boxes.

"Good morning, students. Today we are going to make omelettes," Emma says, determined. She gestures towards the boxes. "Pick yourself an apron and a recipe box. You will use those today and then you will place them in the boxes you decorated last week."

As the students walk past her, she hands out a piece of paper.

"Oh, yeah," Dawn swirled the oil and butter together in the pan, "Just destroy the non-chicken embryo and pour it in the pan so we can eat."

"I think it's pretty much destroyed already," he noted, the yolk bleeding out messily as he poured the bowl into the pan as she indicated. "And thanks for that mental image, really."

"Anything I can do to help," she said, not at all sorry, "and dump it in." She turned the heat down a little, just in case.

The egg bubbled a little on top of the butter and oil and Alec watched it. "Does it take a long time? Not that I'm all that hungry anymore when I think about eating embryos."

"Remind me not to tell you about snails," Dawn snickered, watching the egg start to firm. "Is there a spatula? I think there's some stirring that needs to happen. And no, eggs are usually pretty quick."

"Snail embryos?" Alec handed her the spatula and grabbed a cutting board to start chopping up peppers and sausage.
