Home Ec, Tuesday, 1 period

Today the class room is set up with gas stoves on each desk. The desks also have frying pans, spatulas in every version possible, small sharp knives and a cutting board. There's also a collection of food, just in case you were in doubt of what today's lesson is all about. About 36 eggs, chili, bacon, tomatos, olive oil, butter, green peppers, yellow peppers, red peppers, sausages, cheese, ham, pineapple, oranges and nacho chips.

Emma is standing in front of her desk. It looks a little like all she's wearing is a white apron. On either side of her are boxes. One is full of aprons, the other has recipe boxes.

"Good morning, students. Today we are going to make omelettes," Emma says, determined. She gestures towards the boxes. "Pick yourself an apron and a recipe box. You will use those today and then you will place them in the boxes you decorated last week."

As the students walk past her, she hands out a piece of paper.

She smiled, tried to be reassuring. "It's all right. We can do it. I promise." She popped a piece of pineapple in her mouth.

"Okay, um, let's see...we need oil. See the oil? Dump some in the skillet please?"

Demyx cooking was seriously, seriously dangerous. He picked up the oil and, literally, dumped a large amount of it into the skillet.

"Okayyyy, I think that's good." Annette leaned over the skillet a little, looking in, then she looked at Demyx.

"Should we crack some eggs now?" She obviously forgot about the recipe.

"...um...maybe?" Demyx reached over the skillet for the eggs, dragging his sleeve through the oil. Frowning, he looked at the oily leather. "Damnit!" He flailed his arm a little, sending droplets of cooking oil flying.

Into the burner.

Cue fire. And more flailing.

"Not again!" It wasn't his sleeve this time, at least, but the flareup certainly freaked Demyx out.

Annette saw it happening in slow motion.

"Oh my god!" Flailing. Big time Flailing. "Be calm. Stay cool. Hot! Hot! Hot!"

She grabbed the handle of the skillet and removed it from the burner and set it aside on a pot holder.

Flail.

"Okay. Okay." She jumped up and down and then reached in and turned off the gas.

Demyx beat her to the punch, dousing the entire cooking-station with a deluge of water.

Dripping, he looked up at Annette with a sheepish smile. "...I can't cook."

Annette was still looking at Demyx when Miss Frost walked over.

Blinking, she brushed wet strands of hair back from her face and tried a smile, however tremulous it was.

"Uh..." She glanced at Demyx then back to Miss Frost. "It was my fault. I...uh...the fire and oil and well -- Can we try again?"
