Precisely on time, Darth Vader swept into the room and slammed the door firmly behind him.

"Today we talk about lying," he said, his masked face scanning the faces in front of him as he prowled around the classroom.

"Everyone lies," he stated flatly. "To hide things, to manipulate others, to avoid...unpleasantness." There was a definite hint of scorn in his voice at that last example. "In class today, you are required to pair up and only tell the truth." His cape whirled behind him. "And I can tell if you are not. Such disobedience will result in detention."

He paused for a moment. "And I don't believe in that axiom where if you cannot say something nice, you don't say anything at all. I do not require you to be nice. I require you to be honest." He glanced down at the student roster. "If everyone comes to class today, there will be an odd number. That final person will be interrogated by me."

He crossed his arms over his chest, his mechanical breathing the only sound for a moment. "Name. Place of birth. Classes you are taking," he barked out. "Proceed from there."

"Liar," Katara said.

"I make my own destiny," Zuko replied, trying very hard to control his temper. "You have no right to question my honour because yours depends on a child." There was irony in there somewhere.

"You're a child," Katara pointed out. "Guess your honour rests on one too."

"You should go back to the South Pole," he suggested. "I don't think your brain can handle a more complicated world."

"You'd like that, wouldn't you?" she said. "Leave you here to spread whatever lies you like."

"What do you care what these people think?" Zuko asked. "They won't influence anything in our world."

Katara paused for a second, not wanting to possibly plant her thought into his mind. "I don't think anyone should have to fall influence to the Fire Nation. I know what your people do."

"So you've taken it upon yourself to protect this island too?"

"I'll protect anything from you that I have to."

"You can't even protect yourself," he scoffed.

She stared at him. "Oh so you think I'm helpless without the Avatar to protect me?" Her hand dropped slightly back towards her waterskin.

"I know you are," he corrected.

"You're wrong," she said with certainty.

"You're dreaming," he replied simply.

"Shall we see?" she asked, looking at him challengingly.

Zuko shrugged, pretending that her challenge meant nothing to him. "You won't like the results," he warned. "But then, I don't care what you like."
