Ethics [Monday, January 15, 5th period]

Precisely on time, Darth Vader swept into the room and slammed the door firmly behind him.

"Today we talk about lying," he said, his masked face scanning the faces in front of him as he prowled around the classroom.

"Everyone lies," he stated flatly. "To hide things, to manipulate others, to avoid...unpleasantness." There was a definite hint of scorn in his voice at that last example. "In class today, you are required to pair up and only tell the truth." His cape whirled behind him. "And I can tell if you are not. Such disobedience will result in detention."

He paused for a moment. "And I don't believe in that axiom where if you cannot say something nice, you don't say anything at all. I do not require you to be nice. I require you to be honest." He glanced down at the student roster. "If everyone comes to class today, there will be an odd number. That final person will be interrogated by me."

He crossed his arms over his chest, his mechanical breathing the only sound for a moment. "Name. Place of birth. Classes you are taking," he barked out. "Proceed from there."

"Likewise, Mr. Dornez. You may call me Princess Irulan or simply, Irulan as formality is not an issue in these things." Yes, she's beginning to learn from King Peter. "I think, both revolution and government should prove useful. I am ambivalent with this class, however."

"Irulan, then," Walter said. He respected royalty, but proximity here had somewhat taken the shine off of royalty outside his own country's.

"I find this class rather direct," he said. "But I am troubled by the revolution class. What makes you ambivalent about this one?"

"It might be a premature reaction," Irulan said, thoughtfully, "But I think his lectures, like today, are about things we already know."

Walter shrugged slightly and glanced around the room. "You might already know it, I might already know it, but haven't you noticed that they're things some of the other students don't seem to have thought about?"

Irulan pondered this. "You may be right on the matter. These things I know by benefit of experience but as I've learned this place has a diverse culture."

"Quite," Walter agreed. "What about your experience has made you learn these lessons?"

"The imperial court is not exactly known for nice," Irulan said dryly.
