Ethics [Monday, January 15, 5th period]

Precisely on time, Darth Vader swept into the room and slammed the door firmly behind him.

"Today we talk about lying," he said, his masked face scanning the faces in front of him as he prowled around the classroom.

"Everyone lies," he stated flatly. "To hide things, to manipulate others, to avoid...unpleasantness." There was a definite hint of scorn in his voice at that last example. "In class today, you are required to pair up and only tell the truth." His cape whirled behind him. "And I can tell if you are not. Such disobedience will result in detention."

He paused for a moment. "And I don't believe in that axiom where if you cannot say something nice, you don't say anything at all. I do not require you to be nice. I require you to be honest." He glanced down at the student roster. "If everyone comes to class today, there will be an odd number. That final person will be interrogated by me."

He crossed his arms over his chest, his mechanical breathing the only sound for a moment. "Name. Place of birth. Classes you are taking," he barked out. "Proceed from there."

"Nope." Neil answered almost immediately.

"What's your favorite course that you've taken while you've been here?"

"Uh..." Blair frowned. "I don't know if I can narrow it down to just one. I'm a bit of a geek so I love all of my classes."

"What's your biggest fear?"

"My old man." Neil answered in a bright, moving along the conversation manner.

"So, think that's enough questions?"

Neil glanced up towards the clock, thinking it could certainly be enough questions, right?

"No." Blair said and leaned forward. "You're scared of your father? Why? What's scary about him? Are you scared of him or for him?"

Blair? A little obsessed with fathers.

Err...uuuhhh...errr...

"Well..uh...I mean, it's sort of expected in my era. You honor and obey your parents, particularly your father as the head of the household. He's not scary I guess he's just strict and I want to please him so it can be frightening to fail to live up to his expectations."

Which, was all sort of the truth. Neil did honestly hate to disappoint his folks, especially his father.

"It's expected to be scared of your dad?" Blair asked, confused. "I mean, I get the whole respect and obediance shtick, and the expectations deal. But you said your greatest fear was your dad. That's a little more drastic, isn't it?"

Scrambling a bit, Neil gave Blair a shakey smile.

"Let's say, more that maybe I'm scared of disappointing him? So I sort of short hand that to being scared of him."

"Hmm." Blair nodded, not totally believing him but not wanting to push anymore. "That seems like enough questions, don't you think?"
