Precisely on time, Darth Vader swept into the room and slammed the door firmly behind him.

"Today we talk about lying," he said, his masked face scanning the faces in front of him as he prowled around the classroom.

"Everyone lies," he stated flatly. "To hide things, to manipulate others, to avoid...unpleasantness." There was a definite hint of scorn in his voice at that last example. "In class today, you are required to pair up and only tell the truth." His cape whirled behind him. "And I can tell if you are not. Such disobedience will result in detention."

He paused for a moment. "And I don't believe in that axiom where if you cannot say something nice, you don't say anything at all. I do not require you to be nice. I require you to be honest." He glanced down at the student roster. "If everyone comes to class today, there will be an odd number. That final person will be interrogated by me."

He crossed his arms over his chest, his mechanical breathing the only sound for a moment. "Name. Place of birth. Classes you are taking," he barked out. "Proceed from there."

"Well, when I was seven, I'm fairly sure they weren't. Nowdays? I think it's called sarcasm."

Jake smirked. "So, you're new? What did you do before you came here?"

"Yeah, I'm new. I went to school, hung out at the mall, and played a lot of video games. You?"

"Got kicked out of lots of schools," Jake shrugged. "I don't like being bored, or having my coffee taken away."

Marco made a note to stay away from Jake's coffee. "So what do you do to not be bored?"

"Whatever my friends, I mean, my bad influence can come up with." Jake grinned.

"Of course your friends are the bad influence." Marco said with a matching grin.

"Hey, I'm just a follower." Jake held up his hands. "It's the goal of my life to do what other people say. It's good practice!"

"Really? Practice for what?"

"I'm going to be a courier," Jake said proudly.

"A what?"

Jake sighed and went for the easiest, but least dignified explanation. "Sort of a glorified mailman for the filthy rich."

"Sounds...well, it sounds boring."

Jake stared at him, not quite capable of comprehending that point of view. "What?"

"So basically you're just running errands, right? Where's the fun in that?"

"You get to go places! See people! Drink lots of coffee, if you're very lucky!"

"You can do that without having to run errands?"

"But that's no fun." Jake gave him a look of "boy, you're a weirdo, aren't you?1

Marco was giving Jake a very similar look. "How is running errands fun?!"

"Well, what are you going to do for a living then?"

"Be rich and famous." Marco said with a smirk.

Jake snickered. "Any idea how you're gonna get to that part? American Idol? Top Model?"

Marco grinned. "Sell my life story to Hollywood."

"You have an interesting life story then?" Jake asked curiously.

"Oh absolutely! A real page turner!"
