Human Anatomy, Thursday, 01/11, Period 3

Elliot looked like she was halfway between bouncing and running away in terror as she started her first class of the semester, and she kept wiping her hands on her slacks as if her palms were sweaty.

"Hi, people, welcome to human anatomy, which is the study of structures and systems of the human body,. If you didn't sign up for anatomy, you're in the wrong place. If you stick around without registering? You're volunteering to be dissected.

"I am Elliot Reid, which yes is a guys' name. Blame my dad. Call me Elliot or Dr. Reid. Doing the E.T. voice on Elliot will freak me out and earn you a detention. But basically, it's pretty easy not to get a detention in here - show up on time, don't miss more than three classes without letting me know, and don't be incredibly hugely obnoxious, and you're golden.

"I am passing around a couple of things. First, you have textbooks, which are yours to keep and love and put under your pillow. Second is my voice mail number. Call whenever. I'm also in my office Friday mornings, if you need me outside of class. You're also getting the class roster and syllabus. Syllabus is a guideline, not a rule -- it can change. Finally, my TA is John Dorian, so if you can't find me for something, talk to him."

Done with the preliminaries, she pointed to an area behind the rows of desks where seven-foot stretches of paper were taped to the floor, with buckets of markets between them. "To help make this class more visual, you're going to pair up and trace each other, and then we'll tape the drawings to the wall to fill in the body systems on as we learn them. But before you do that, I want to do some introductions. Say your name, your grade, and two interesting things about yourself. Starting with .... you." She closed her eyes and pointed randomly into the group.

Henry laid down on the paper. He tucked his ponytail into his shirt collar, so it wouln't get in the way.

Very carefully, Chad traced out Henry's outline, pursing his lips in concentration as he tried to make a good, solid, even line.

Henry held his breath and tried not to move. After a bit of this, he realized that breathing was rather necessary, and his decision to refrain from such activity was...what word did he want...
stupid. That'd do.

Chad finished up the outline, tilted his head a little as he inspected it. "Your turn, I guess?"

Henry took a deep breath, happy to be able to breathe again. "All right." He got up and grabbed a marker.

Chad laid out on a piece of paper, thinking, no, this isn't even remotely awkward at all.

He was also feeling suddenly sarcastic.

Henry's expected to feel very awkward about it all, but as he started to trace, the clinical mindset kicked in. After all, a human body's just a human body.

Once the outline was complete omg tracing modder!, Chad gave his outline a look, head tilting. His hands went to his hips. Were they really that narrow? Really? Huh.

Oh noes! Henry picked up his outline, and handed Chad's over. "Where did Dr. Reid say that the tape was?"

"Ummm," Chad looked around to find it as he tried to remember. "I....don't think she did."

Henry had guessed what tape was, and he saw some outlines already stuck to the wall, held up by some beige strips. However, he didn't actually know how it was packaged, so he had a bit of a problem.
"I'll look over here," Henry said, and checked the marker buckets to see if anyone had dropped any tape in them.

"I'll....check the high shelves." Which he did. And Chad found some tape.

"Got it." He said, and tossed the roll over to Henry.

Henry caught it, and pulled off a couple of pieces, before handing it back to Chad. "Thank you." He hung up his outline.

"De nada," Chad said, taking the tap and putting up his outline, too. He decided that he liked his narrow hips.
