Superheroing 101- Tuesday, January 9- 2nd period

When the students walk in, they should notice a woman standing at the front of the room. Wearing a really pretty revealing costume... and a cardigan over it so students won't be staring at her chest. Shhh. It's more professional for the first day.

"Good morning!" she says once everyone's taken their seats, a syllabus on every desk. "I'm Captain Liberty, and welcome to Superheroing 101. I am a professional superhero. Trust me, I wouldn't dress like this on a normal basis." God, she hates the cardigan. She feels like one of those really young teachers she had in school who used to dress like her grandma. Luckily she's missing the lacy collar and the flats with bows on them. "In this class, you'll get to learn the ins and outs of identifying a bad guy, getting rid of one, and also dealing with the, um, more personal sides of it. And by the way, no, I don't have superpowers. They're great and definitely a help if you have them, but hopefully by the end of this you'll figure out that having common sense and the right mindset helps just as much. Also, if you know the people I do, common sense is kind of a rarer commodity." Sigh.

"But for now the first thing we're going to do is decide on superhero names. You'll be using these names- not your real ones- anytime you're in class," she says, and yes she's pleased with coming up with that when she has three Peters in the class. "The only thing I ask is that if you are going to go into professional superheroing, or already do, don't use your real fake name. If anyone in the class goes evil and turns into a supervillain, you don't want them knowing your real identity. That gets messy.

"Once we've done that, we're going to go around the room so you can introduce yourselves. Go ahead and add in any powers you're willing to divulge and if you have a superheroing experience, feel free to tell a story. Plus, naturally being both teenagers and potential superheroes, you're bound to want to talk about yourself somehow. We're all about sharing here!"

Which isn't code for Captain Liberty failing at coming up with an actual assignment for class yet, nope.

Cassie, the girl at least partially responsible for codenames such as 'Speed', 'Wicca', and 'Stature' should probably not be consulted if you're having troubles.

But she's there. Thinking of a new one. Since Ant-Girl and Giant-Girl are straight out, too.

Buffy glanced towards the blonde girl. "How are you at coming up with superhero names? Because I've totally given up."

"I think I'm pretty good," Cassie said. "A name should definitely go with your strengths and powers."

Buffy considered this. "I can cheer and also slay vampires?"

Cassie thought. "The Cheerslayer? Or how about... Spirit Slayer?" She thought harder.

"You know, the cheerleader thing lends itself to better names. Like... Pep Rally. Or Pom Pom Power."

Buffy frowned. "I'm not sure about Spirit Slayer... I mean, it sounds like I'm killing the spirit or something.

...I like Pom Pom Power."

"And we could call you Pom Pom for short," Cassie said. She smiled "I like it."

"Yay!" Buffy smiled back. "Thank you for your help." She got up to tell the teacher her name.

"Glad to help," Cassie said, before going back to think of something new for herself.

Jude is also sitting with his thinky face on. Finally he groaned and headdesked. "Never gonna figure one out."

Because Dragon Thunder? Totally Jonesy. Jude was always the chick.

"Maybe I can help?" Cassie said. "I helped come up with a bunch of the names for the actual superhero group back home."

Jude lifted his head, pushing his toque back into place. "Really? That would be awesome, bra. 'Cause, like, I got nothin'."

"Well, what sort of powers and stuff do you have?" Cassie asked.

"Uh . . . I don't actually have any powers," he confessed. "I'm just really good at skateboarding. Well, unless I'm . . ." he gestured at his happysparkly cast.

"Yeesh, ow," Cassie said. "Skateboarding, skateboarding..."

She started thinking.

"Turnpike? The Grinder? Sk8r Boi, spelled like that Avril Lavigne song? Captain Kickflip?"

Jude looked at her, slightly in awe. "Whoa. You can totally spit those things out. But . . . I dunno . . ." He kinda liked Captain Kickflip, though. "I'm Canadian, too?"

"I dunno," Cassie said. "The funny spelling thing really isn't useful. But yeah, I'm the daughter of a superhero. I got a lot of experience around them."

Jude chuckled. "Yeah, anything about inserting 'u's just sounds dirty. An' that's cool. I'm, like, totally average in everything. My parents are even more boring than I am."

"Don't knock it," Cassie said. "Some of us didn't ever get a chance to be normal."

Jude hunched up a little, sheepish. "Sorry."

"S'okay," Cassie said. "Most of the time? I like that I'm special."

Jude nodded, holding up one finger in a zen sort of fashion. "Not liking yourself is totally mellow-harshing."

"Exactly," Cassie said. "So... Captain Kickflip?"

Jude nodded. "Yeah. Captain Kickflip. I like that one." He looked down at his scrawny self and wondered if it was . . . too big.

"I think it suits you," Cassie said.
