Alphonse shook his head slightly; he wasn't his brother for nothing, so he could at the very least get an idea of what Edward was saying. "Swallow your food, first," he chided, biting down on his chips. "'What's up' is that I'm here because we both agreed on it."

Edward chewed a moment longer, swallowed and snapped his fingers. "That's right! I knew I had to be here for a reason. Uh... what was that again?"

Alphonse scowled, tossing his remaining chip right towards Edward's face. "You know 'what'."

Edward caught the chip in his mouth and crunched it, smirking at Alphonse. "You have no sense of humor anymore, do you?" He popped another chip into his mouth before sliding into serious. "I kind of fed you the ... 'abridged' version of events yesterday," Edward said, finding his chips a little more interesting than Alphonse.

Alphonse rolled his eyes, opting for folding his arms on the table instead of fueling that topic further. "Uh-huh," Alphonse began, going into the next one. "So... what happened?"

He decided to go straight to the point; while the both of them were experts at beating around the bush, Alphonse was determined to find out what exactly prompted this sudden Ed-Freakout.

"Do you remember anything about the Eiselsteins at all? Or Heissgart?" Edward played with the chip on his plate, contemplating getting another sandwich. Hey, he's a growing boy. "Sensei took us to meet them."

"Yeah, when we were on our way to Dublith, we stopped by Professor Eiselstein's before getting there, right?" It'd been so long since it happened, the details were a bit fuzzy for Alphonse. "And he had his daughter with him-- Selene; that's what Armony reminded me what her name was. I only remember seeing them two."

Edward took a deep breath. "Here's where things get fun," he said. "Armony is Selene."

Alphonse boggled at him for a second. "... she is?"

"Yeah." Edward poked at the remainder of his food, his appetite suddenly gone. "From what I could gather, Selene was helping Eiselstein with some experiment and it rebounded and almost killed her. The only way to save her involved putting a Catalyst into her... that's why Armony exists and Selene doesn't."

"I see," Alphonse said quietly, slumping over his folded arms on the table. "... That sort of makes sense. So if Eiselstein forbid her from using alchemy, I'm guessing it's because it effects the Catalyst."

"Exactly," Edward said with a grim nod. "If she uses alchemy it will activate the Catalyst and..." He found the tray so very, very interesting. "I'm not going to let her down again."

Alphonse glanced up at Edward with a small, surprised look. "She used it and something happened."

It was no question, because he knew with that statement, something did.

Edward didn't want to talk about this anymore. "That's why we can't have her using alchemy. She can study it until the cows come home but we can't let her use it." Edward was now stabbing the remnants of his lunch.

"Alright," he agreed. For once, Alphonse didn't feel the want or need to know what precisely happened; whatever it was, it was Bad News and he knew none of that needed to happen at Fandom. "I'll make sure she doesn't try. She's very persistent, though."

"We'll have to keep a sharp eye on her," Edward said thoughtfully, his appetite slightly back as he started picking at the non-crushed chips. "I get the feeling she's not going to listen to me..."

"Well, she can't perform it if she doesn't fully understand how to use transmutation circles," Alphonse pointed out. "Even if it's a big part of alchemy..." He trailed off, pausing. "But I guess we're not out to teach her as much as we can, anyway."
