Energy and Fitness, Friday, December 22, Period 1

The gym was set up a little differently than usual when the students walked in. The most different thing was probably the large, blue man with a clipboard and a whistle.

"Hello, students of both energy and fitness! I am The Tick, your Dean and substitute teacher for this, your final class of the semester! I will be conducting your final exam, and your final will be in three parts! but if you've worked hard and studied up until now, you should do just fine!"

[OOC: I love days off. Time for crack.]

"Veruca Cally, Dean Tick, sir," Cally said.

"Pip Bernadette, sir," Pip answered. "You do know we've had maybe... five or so classes in this course?"

"Cameron Mitchell, sir," Cameron said.

Zuko had never seen Tick up close so there was some staring going on as he signed in. "Zuko."

"Setsuna Sakurazaki, sensei." Bow.

"Anders, Dean Tick, sir." Anders rubbed a hand over his face. "Samuel."

"Togusa, boss."

"For the first part of the exam, we'll be focusing on energy. To test this, I have a light bulb hooked up to a lemon battery (http://www.energyquest.ca.gov/projects/lemon.html)! All you have to do is touch the free ends of the wires to your tongue and you should be able to start an electric current to power the light bulb! That, chums, is energy! If you can generate it, you pass part one!"

[OOC: As long as you touch your tongue to the wires, you will generate the current and pass.]

Cally raised an eyebrow, then touched her tongue to the wires.

"Eeeh eeehhhleee," she said, her open mouthed attempt to say 'It's tingly'.

The Tick blew his whistle as the light went on. "Extremely eeehhhleee, Cally!"

Pip shrugged, leaned forward, and touched his tongue to the free ends.

Energy was conducted.

Sexy energy.

After having had a whole semester of classes with the Tick, he really shouldn't be surprised about this test. He was pretty sure this wasn't the kind of energy that Yondaime had in mind, but considering that he had never learned to control the whole chakra thing, he probably had a better shot at this.

Cameron leaned forwards and touched the wires to his tongue. And then there was light.

This was ridiculous. The blue demon was asking them to lightning bend with their tongues. Zuko scoffed and stayed back as the other students started doing the test. When he saw the light bulbs lighting up however, he got confused.

No one in this world knew how to bend fire or even feel energy and now they were making electricty. With. Their. Tongues. This was crazy. And more than a little bit interesting.

Zuko stepped forward and grasped the wires. He frowned down at them, but he couldn't feel any energy from them. He looked fervently around before opening his mouth and... touching the wires to his tongue. His eyes widened as the light bulb started working. He quickly pulled the wires away and the light went out again.

"This isn't possible."

"T..to your tongue?" Setsuna blinked a lot, and warily did just that.

"Eep! That's so weird!"

"This better not damage my tongue," Anders muttered, but did it anyway.

". . . okay, that's just freaky."

"Okay, good job, students! For the second part, we'll be looking at the fitness side of things! If you can demonstrate some fitness skill you've developed in this class - hitting things, or jumping to hit things, or shooting basketball, or even just a lot of pushups - you'll pass part two!"

[OOC: Just describe some physical fitness activity. Whatever works.]

Cally went for doing those punch and kick moves Zuko had taught them, and Setsuna had helped her with. She wasn't perfect at them, or even all that great, but she did them well enough.

Pip's left arm was still all messed-up like.

So he decided to do some one arm push ups.

Cameron took a moment to decide on an excercise. He finally settled on doing some basketball drills.

Hitting things Zuko could do without much problem. He moved over to the punching bag and demonstrated a couple of moves. It took some concentration to squash down on his urge to add fire to the mix, but he somehow doubted burning the bag was going to go down well.

Oh, Setsuna was all about the hitting of things. She demonstrated a few of her more impressive weaponless forms and flips and punches around the punching bag.

Pushups? Easy. Anders did those every morning, so a few dozen more wasn't much of a hassle.

He did throw in a few minutes' worth of Pyramid moves for good measure, though.

"Almost done, chums! For the final part of the exam, we'll be seeing how well you can apply energy and fitness together! So for this one, we have stationary bikes hooked up to a small power generator (http://www.econvergence.net/electro.htm) hooked up to a light bulb! If you can keep the bulb on for three minutes by pedalling, you pass! You have five minutes within which to achieve that time, so if you really need it you have time to get up to power generating speed! You'll get extra credit for every thirty seconds over three minutes you can keep the bulb steadily lit!"

[OOC: Let's say that the bulb lights up when you reach slightly faster than a basic cruising speed. Nothing too hard.]

Cally pedalled as best she could. She managed to get in about four minutes before her legs started hurting, and since she didn't think she needed much extra credit, she stopped then.

Pip had a little trouble balancing himself with only one arm, but kept the bulb going for a good five and a half minutes before remembering that he didn't care.

Considering the training he'd been keeping up with for his exams to the USAF Academy, this really wasn't too hard. Cameron got on the bike and managed to keep the light burning well over three minutes, enough to earn him extra credit more than a few times.

As if the first light bulb wasn't bad enough. Zuko once more stayed back. He'd never in his life seen a bike and how it was going to make the light bulb work again, was beyond him.

He watched everyone for a moment before he went to the free bike. Another look around him and he hesitantly climbed on. It felt weird and he probably had no clue how glad he should be right now that it was just a stationary bike. Another look around and he copied the kid beside him and placed his feet on the pedals.

Nothing happened.

Zuko frowned and looked down. Maybe it was broken. Feeling stupid sitting on the broken thing, he put his weight on his feet to climb off the bike again. The pedal started moving and Zuko only barely managed to catch himself before he hit his chin against the bar. Apparently he had to make the pedals move himself. After a couple of tries, he finally got the hang of it and was pedalling away, the light bulb shining brightly. He didn't care much about the extra credits however once he realised how stupid he looked on the bike.

Setsuna started out strong and kept building up speed as she got a little carried away and pedaled like crazy in the whole duration of her five minutes.

And hitting the stationary bikes was something else Anders did on a regular basis. He never pushed himself quite as hard on the bike these days as he'd used to be able to when Kara was working out with him, but that didn't stop him from getting into a Zone and going on for about half an hour before he remembered he'd only needed to keep the bulb going for three minutes.

Oops?

"If you need me for anything, my whistle and I will be over here!"

Ah, I miss teaching classes.
