Library [12/21]

Rory and Sheila made their way into the library. Sheila, for her part, was precariously balanced in a cozy box atop a pile of books.

Rory was drinking her cup of coffee.

Sheila had a small bottlecap's worth in front of her.

"Good morning, Rory," Yomiko said as she came into the library. "Is that an egg?"

"Good morning, Ms. Readman," Rory said cheerfully. "This is Sheila. She's my eggbaby. It's an Ethics assignment."

"It's very nice to meet you, Sheila," Yomiko said to the egg.

Sheila didn't reply. "She hasn't had her coffee yet, or she'd totally return the sentiment," Rory replied.

Yomiko wasn't sure coffee was good for small children, but she just nodded and said, "I'm like that, too."

Rory was starting to study her notes for her last final. Not that her notes for said final were all that inclusive considering it was Ethics and she spent most of her time in there hating the teacher, but still.

Sheila was, if you asked Rory, taking a nap.

Angela seemed to be in ... well, a better mood than she had been in for a while. "Morning, Rory."

"Morning!" Rory said. "Sheila would say hi, too, but she's napping," she added, gesturing to the egg.

Angela raised an eyebrow. "Your egg talks?" she asked.

Then, just in case -- this was Fandom -- she added, "Hi, Sheila."

"Ethics project," Rory explained. "Sheila is my baby for the week. It's...weird."

"I've seen people carrying eggs around," Angela nodded. "I oondered if it was some fad I missed out on."

She tilted her head at the egg. "Why Sheila?"

"Why not?" she asked. "I named her and Stark, who's the fake daddy, liked it."

"She looks like a Sheila," Angela decided. "How's Stark as a daddy? Was he watching her while we were in Tortall."

Rory nodded. "And then I got her on Monday. I suppose that since she's not broken, he was a great dad."

"Low standards, but for an egg, they work," Angela decided.

Stretching, she added, "So are you going to L.A. over break at all? We'll probably be there for New Year's."

Rory nodded. "Probably starting right after Christmas, I think. I need to go home for a few days over the holiday itself, but I'll be in LA at least a bit."

"Same here," Angela said. "We need to spend some time in Pittsburgh, but we'll head out after that."

"Home the mainland, or home seeing-your-fun-grandparents?"

"Home as in Stars Hollow. Mom and Luke and Bucky are moving back."

"Ohhh," Angela said. "That'll be ... different."

Rory shrugged. "I get to finish out the year here, so I'm happy."

"Having to switch for the last half of your senior year would suck," Angela agreed. "Being the new girl at the last minute. But, probably no invasions."

"Not unless you count tourists," Rory said, repeating what she'd told Aeryn.

"I think tourists only count if they use their fanny packs to attack," Angela said thoughtfully.

"Some of them are vicious with those visors," Rory said seriously.

Angela was laughing at that mental image. "And they can do crazy things with their maps," she suggested. "Ninja origami."

"With the intent of papercutting everyone," Rory said with a giggle.

"Now that's just vicious," Angela said. "I see why you want to stay here with zombies and trolls."

After a brief tussle with her notes and an atlas that apparently had it in for her, Rory had moved Sheila to a safer place beneath the desk.

And now Sheila was helping Rory wrap some Christmas gifts.

(If by "helping" one means "sitting there being ovular.")

Rory had pudding, a cookie, more coffee and a slice of pie. Generously, she was sharing all of her bounty with her egg child.

And now she was back to studying for Ethics. She didn't hate Alex, after all, and he might actually give them a final.

Woe, for Rory and Sheila are off in Ethics class. Perhaps someone else can help?

Ms. Readman was there. She didn't have any eggs, but she did have some origami cranes.

Rory returned from Ethics sans egg child, and went back to reading behind the desk, subdued.

*runs around in circles*
