Philosophy of Values: Final Exam - Period 3

This morning found yummy baked goods at the front of the desk, next to a stack of wiggling blue books that were currently held down with a couple large bricks.

Wilson was leaning against the front of the desk, holding a folder which contained the exam.

“Good morning, class.” He said with a smile as soon as everyone was seated.

“All right, you have the full class period for this exam, its closed book and notes…you all know the routine by now I’m certain. I’ll be handing out your exam and a blue book. There are plenty more up here at the desk but…err…given recent events, please don’t grab extras until you are ready to hold them down and use them.”

Smiling once more at the group, Wilson’s dark eyes twinkled.

“I’m really going to miss you guys, it’s been a wonderful semester and I hope you all have a fantastic holiday.”

Pushing away from the desk, he began to hand out the blue books and the final exam.

"Oh! Last thing, Phoebe and Blair, would you both see me after class please?"

Short Answer

1) Please discuss the idea of Arrogance in the terms of the Seven Deadly Sins. Discuss the idea of Humility in terms of the Seven Virtues.

2) Write out Kierkegaard’s definition of Despair.

3) Detail a scenario where Forgiveness would benefit you over Revenge.

4) Why is it only drug dealers and software developers call their clients 'users'?

Essay Questions (Answer 3 out of 4):

1) Discuss the play ”Othello” in terms of the philosophical question of how Othello’s arrogance and insecurity make him vulnerable to the manipulations of Iago and how Desdemona’s innocence either does or does not play a role in the ultimate tragedy.

2) Earlier this semester we discussed the idea of our reality and how our individual reality defines us. Using that discussion as a foundation weave in the philosophical differences that Hope and Despair bring to our reality of ourselves.

3) Discuss the interlocking relationship between the ideas of Forgiveness, Revenge, Cooperation and Confrontation. Take a scenario handwavey listened below and follow it through various combinations of those four ideas. (This question also gives you the chance for extra credit if you can tackle more than four variations on these ideas.)

4) Can something be Aesthetically pleasing and also Pragmatic or are these two ideas mutually exclusive?

[ooc: OCDs are on the way up! Time for the last class...*sniff!*]

Blair took cookies. And signed in.

Willow grabbed a cookie and carefully grabbed a blue book as well.

Alanna grabbed a cookie for Faithful as well as herself.

Luna selected a few baked goods and a rather frisky booklet which she petted to see if it wouldn't relax a bit.

Hermione has no idea how people can eat a time like this, and takes a blue book, looking a little nervous about the exam.

Blair handed in a handwavy exam.

Willow handed in an exam that consisted of several blue books. She tied them together to help make sure they didn't escape and somehow affect her grade.

In the short answer, Alanna answered concisely and a little bit sarcastically. Question three remained blank, though she kept staring at it through out the exam and finally scribbled down "The guy you forgive might save your life later on" before turning the exam in. For the essays, Alanna accidentally answered all four questions. Again, concise answers written in really bad handwriting.

Luna handed in a filled to brimming booklet.

The weight of the ink had lulled the booklet into a calmer state... for now.

Hermione does a lot of writing to begin with, so there are a good couple books' worth here. She probably did really well, if she's a little overblown with her writing.

Since Wilson had been clever, and informed the angel there would be no office hours, Aziraphale had to be a bit creative in his revenge for the previous night's glitter war (http://dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com/51081.html).

So at some point during class, while the students were busy taking their exams, a gentle rain of tiny sparkly snowflakes (which proved to be made of paper and glitter) began to fall from above the teacher's desk.

Willow raised her hand.

"Does this mean there will be boykissy?"

Willow giggled. "Thank you! Here, for you - Happy Hanukkah." She handed him a beribboned bag with cookies in it.

"Oo, sounds interesting," Willow said. She grinned. "I bet Blair will love it."

"Makes sense," Willow said with a nod. "Unfortunately most of the vamps I know can't be calmed down with promises of an episode of Passions."

"Thanks, man!" Blair bounced and took about 0.2 seconds to rip open the package and reveal the meditation rug. "Whoa, man, this is...this amazing! Thank you!"

Blair grinned and examined the snowflake closer. "I finished packing the other day, and hopefully River is almost done. Luckily I got my notebooks packed so they aren't flying around the room."

"Are you and Azzy staying here for the holidays?"

Also, I need to speak to you before putting up Luna's response.
