When the students entered the Danger Shop for the final exam today, they would find it set up like the interior of the tent from the first class. Janice stood up near the front of the tent, waiting for everyone to assemble.

"Hope you wore comfortable shoes like I warned you last week," she said. "It's going to be an interactive final. The tomb on the other side of this dig site is said to be haunted . . . or at least, the original one was. The only thing haunting this one is your test. Your objective is to get through the tomb and out again, but you've got it easy. All you have to do is answer the questions, not dodge booby traps. One at a time, though. So line up here, brush up a little while you wait your turn, and then get back here. Do well enough on the test and I might even let you celebrate the end of the semester with a bang."

That said, she leaned back against the desk and waited.

Janice is waiting with the plunger handle of an old-fashioned TNT detonator.

"OOooooooo." Evie took a deep breath. "Really? With dynamite?"

Evie just got an extra ten points or so on her exam for displaying enthusiasm about blowing things up. "Yeah, with dynamite," Janice said, stepping aside and gesturing for her to take the plunger. "Want to give it a shot? It's fun."

"Cool." Evie bounced forward, and took a hold of the plunger, pulled it alllll the way back, then made like Wile. E. Coyote and slammed it down. "YAY!"

Another five points for style, definitely, as the tent canvas flapped abruptly for a moment with the aftershock of the explosion. "Nicely done, Evie. You'll make a great archaeologist someday."

"Thank you, Dr. Covington." Evie beamed, and said, "I've really enjoyed your class. Very much. I hope I can take another one with you, next semester?"

Hooboy. Breaking things gently to people was not exactly Janice's style. Damn Evie and her endearing enthusiasm, though -- she was going to try.

"We'll see how that goes," Janice said cautiously. "I've got an opportunity to go on a dig over the break; we might have a lead on the elusive Xena White Scroll in India. If that goes on longer than expected, I may not be back in time for the spring semester."

"OOoooooo!" Evie nearly clapped, then said mournfully, "Ohhh. It shan't be the same without you, Dr. Covington." She sighed. "But an opportunity like that *can't* be missed! You will send us a postcard, won't you?"

"Hell, kid," Janice said with a rough chuckle, "if I can manage it I'll send you back a piece of India. Maybe I better have a word with Doctor Jackson. Somebody's going to have to keep you Archaeology Club kids in line, and I'm not quite convinced yet that he can do it on his own."

And that would be maniacal glee on Zack's face.

And Zack just got an extra ten points or so for the look of maniacal glee. "It's even more fun if you yell something when you blow the place."

Joxer gave Janice a funny look.

"Well?" Janice asked impatiently. "You think you're such a mighty warrior. Is a little explosion too much for you?"

Privately, she docked another fifteen points from Joxer's test score for this. She really didn't want to have to put up with him again for flunking the class, though, so she might have to give him a couple of points back just to barely pass. Ugh.

"How do I know this isn't going to blow me?" Joxer asked. "You've probably schemed it so it does! You've wanted to blow me since the beginning of the semester!"

Really, it was not possible in any way, physical, theoretical, cosmic or otherwise, to look more outraged and offended than Janice did at this particular moment. One point. One lousy, miserable point. That was all she was going to give him to keep him from failing the damn class.

Spotting a small but heavy obsidian statue atop a crate in the corner of the tent, she grabbed it, brandished it overhead, and made a run for him, bellowing, "Kleinman, you sick, delusional, perverted little freak! That is it! It!"

"For the last time, my name is Joxer!" he cried, before running for the classroom door.

"I don't give a damn what you think your name is," Janice hollered, pelting after him. "Just give me back my goddamn scrolls!"

"I don't have any scrolls!" Joxer said, still running. "Really, really don't!"

Good thing Janice was riled up enough to have really bad aim -- the statue whizzed past his head. "Well, then, get the hell out of my sight! Boil on the butt of humanity."

Broots grinned. "Awesome!"

If only for the opportunity to use one of those plunger things.

Clinging to Egg like a life line, D stomped down on the handle with her booted heel. "Frak this!"

Will might have paused for a second with a content grin on her face, before pushing down the plunger, and blowing the whole place sky-high with a loud KABLOOIE.

It's possible that Sam looked happier now than he had all period. "Seriously? That's awesome."

"I'd like to blow something else up," muttered Janet, having rolled her eyes through the final.
