The good thing about alien fu was that it let you heat up water for tea without a microwave.

It was the odd day that Cally woke up bright and early, but today was one of them. She wandered down to the library, cause she figured she could do some reading over the weekend.

She waved to Isabel as she approached the desk.

"Hey."

"Hey Cally. What's up?" Isabel smiled.

"Not much, actually," Cally said. "Just lookin' forward to the weekend and stuff. Was thinking about getting a couple books on Veganism, if you can help me."

[okie doke!]

"I think I can do that," she said, quickly typing in a request on the computer. "It looks like you want to hit 613 in the reference section. That deals with vegetarians. I'm sure stuff about being vegan will be nearby." Isabel pointed towards one of the aisles, "It'll be down there."

"Awesome, thanks," Cally said, writing down the number. "How've you been, anyways? We've not talked in awhile."

"I've been busy," Isabel said, shrugging. "Between the holiday and school, worrying about people. I've got too much to do and not enough time to do it."

"Worrying about people?" Cally asked. "Is someone in trouble?"

"Cedric's gone missing. Jack's twitchy with worry about him, and I'm worried about both of them," Isabel explained.

"Yikes," Cally said. She'd not really gotten to know Cedric well, but that still was really worrying. "I... I'm sure he's okay. Stuff happens around here, you know?"

"That's what I keep telling Jack," she nodded. "But we both suck at waiting for news. We'd rather do something."

"Yeah," Cally said, thinking of her own experiences with folks who disappeared and she never heard from again. "Well, let me know if you find out something, okay? And while I doubt it, I'll tell you and Jack straight away if I hear anything. I should probably go find those books."

"I will," Isabel smiled, "Thanks. And give a yell if you need anything else. I'm not going anywhere till later."

"Definitely," Cally said. "I'm just studying up on stuff. I'll catch you later, 'kay?"

"Yup! Bye!"

Cally wandered off to go find some ~~handwavey~~ Vegan books...

Isabel's studying her notes for War Theory.

Still studying. Interruptions would be welcome.

Isabel is in War Theory and the library is closed unless another aide is around.

The library is closed for lunch.

That Cosmo article Sam told her about is very interesting.... No, she's not planning on when to put it to the test. Really....

WTF Egg? Her egg baby is being decorated with markers. Benjamin has his daddy's eyes.

Joxer entered the library, then stopped at the desk.

"...why are you drawing on an egg?"

"Because it's my baby," Isabel explained. "He needed a face (http://pics.livejournal.com/izzyalienqueen/pic/00001c8b). Isn't he cute?"

"You gave birth to an egg?" Joxer's own eyes bugged.

It's been a bit of a rough week. Isabel decided she needed to get her laughs where she could. "Yes," she said with a perfectly straight face. "It's an alien thing. I have to build a nest now and sit on it for a few weeks."

Joxer opened and closed his mouth a few times.

"You need help building the nest?" he asked.

"Oh Joxer," Isabel laughed, "Thank you! But no. I don't need a nest and I didn't lay an egg. This is project for my Ethics class. I'm sorry for teasing you, I've just had a week and wanted to have a little fun."

"Oh," Joxer said, rubbing the back of his head. "So, you're egg decorating for ethics. That's a class I should've signed up for."

"The decorations aren't required, I'm just entertaining myself. The egg is supposed to represent a baby though," she explained. "We're supposed to be responsible for it and keep it safe until next week's class."

"You might want to think about getting some armor for it," Joxer said. "Those things can be pretty delicate."

"You know Joxer, that's not a bad idea. Maybe a nice well padded lunch box?" Isabel wondered.

"Yeah, want to make sure there's enough cushion. Might just want to boil the thing just to be double-safe. Toughen it right up," Joxer said.

Isabel looked appalled. "Why does everyone want to boil my baby?"

"But it's just an egg," Joxer said. "Not a baby. You can tell cause it's missing most of the redeeming baby features like being cute, but it's also got something going for it with being quieter and less likely to be smelly. At least, not for a while."

"But boiling it defeats the purpose of the project, which is teaching responsibility while caring for something that's so fragile!" she replied.

"Oh," Joxer said. "I didn't know that." He scratched his chin. "Maybe that lunch box... yeah. That's a good idea. Not boiling. That'd be bad. Because you can't boil a real baby to make it tougher. That would be wrong."

"On more levels then can possibly be counted," Isabel said. "A lunch box it is. Now I just need to find one."

"I think we sell them down at All and Sundries," Joxer said.

"I'll have to stop by then. Thanks Joxer."

"You're welcome," he said. "I'll see you later."

And then he left the library, completely having forgotten to do what he had come to do in the first place.

Everyone wants to boil your baby because if you don't boil them, THINGS come out at night and EAT YOUR BRAINS. DUH. Everybody knows that!
