As everyone came into class, they could see that Krycek had laid out a handout on every desk. He waited at the front of the class until everyone had taken a seat before starting, looking rather cheerful.

"Relationship ethics," he began, then spread his hands, smirking. "Yes, I'm serious. That's what my syllabus says and we're running with it. I'm sure you'll all have fun."

Krycek held up one of the handouts, paraphrasing the first part. "'A basic and trustworthy relationship that one has to another human being, that cannot necessarily be characterized in terms of any abstraction other than trust and common protection of each other's body.' And, as it says, honestly is generally considered a major focus in an ethical relationship.

"I think we all know that it's not always possible to be completely honest, 100% of the time, right? People will be people, no one's perfect, and all that. Sometimes there have to be lies, mutually acknowledged or held by one party, in order to maintain the relationship at all." Krycek remained somewhat amused as he continued. "So when, if ever, is it okay to lie to your partner? When is it okay to invade your partner's privacy? What counts as invading your partner's privacy in the first place?"

After the main discussion, Krycek pulled out a carton of eggs from behind the desk. "Now this is your final project, which will wrap up next week."

He held up one raw egg, grinning slightly. "Congratulations, kids, you're now egg-parents. You'll be caring for an egg for the next week, reports to be made in our last class of the term. I've assigned some pairs and a couple of people as single parents, so go ahead and find your partner - or come get your egg-baby if you're alone - and use the last part of the class to name your baby, decide if it's a boy or a girl, and figure out who gets custody first."

Once everyone had split off, Krycek raised his voice for attention one last time. "So you know, I'll be listening to radio. You can't leave your egg-baby unattended - treat it just like a real baby. And don't think you can get away with breaking your egg, because I'll know. Believe me, I have my ways. So happy parenting and I'll see you all next week!"

"Smart man," Isabel snickered. "You're abandoning poor little Benjamin? What about teaching him to play ball? To ride a bike? Who's going to teach him to fish?"

"It's an egg," Bel scoffed. "If it was a real baby, that'd be different."

"It's a school project! And if you think I'm doing all the work so you can coast along," she said firmly. "Well, it's just not happening."

"But I've got things" -- Bel waved his hands vaguely -- "going on! I don't have time."

"And I don't? It's not just fun and games holiday stuff Bel," Isabel said. "Hell, for all I know I'm going to go trekking off to England in another day or two."

"What if I'm not a fit father?" Bel asked.

"Did you or did you not just go on a rescue mission for a friend?" she asked.

"Yes?" Bel said.

Of course, he'd nearly gotten killed during it.

"Well what's a father do but protect his child? And I'm not even going to comment on the whole love thing. But obviously you're capable of that given your relationship with Phoebe," Isabel explained. "This is all part of being a parent."

"But it's an egg," Bel flailed.

"But you're the one questioning whether or not you're a fit father!" Isabel flailed back.

"All right," Bel sighed. "It's what, for a week? I can do this. So, do we trade off or something?"

"Trading off would work. How about I keep him through the weekend? I'll even ask Sam to babysit him tomorrow while we're in Tortall," she offered.

Bel nodded. "Okay, that works," he said. "Wait...Sam Carter, right? Not Sam Winchester? Because I don't want a son of mine exposed to demons and stuff until he's older. Too dangerous."

"Sam Carter. So little Benjamin will be perfectly safe. Unless Sam gets hungry," she said with a snicker.

"There's a thought," Bel said, eyeing the egg. "Can we hardboil him? He'd be stronger that way, right?"

"Possibly, although I think it might defeat the purpose of the whole fragile thing." Isabel might have pulled the egg a little closer.

"My son would be tough," Bel said proudly.

"I'm sure he would eventually. Just like his father and his mother," she agreed. "But he's tiny and wee right now!"

"All right, no boiling," Bel said. "We'll just be more careful with him."

"Very careful," Isabel nodded. "And we'll keep him away from hungry people."

"Nobody's eating my son!" Bel said firmly.

"Our son!"

"Our son," Bel said. He patted the egg gently. "Think he'll like football?"

"Probably," she agreed. "But we need to expose him to art and music and culture. He needs to be well rounded."
