Music is Love: [12/12]

When the students enter the music room they'll see that it is decked out for the holidays. As a matter a fact several different ones. Some people celebrate Christmas in July. Lorne apparently thinks you should also celebrate the Fourth of July in December.

True it's not the fourth of December, but let's not tell him that.

"Hey kittens! I hope you had some fun with your little bots last week. Before you start telling me how much fun you had with them, I want everyone to come up here and sing their favorite holiday song!"

"I never blew up a..." Sam frowned as she reviewed her mental list. "That's not the point."

Parker snickered at Sam's pause, then asked, "It isn't?"

"No." Sam wasn't sure what the point was at this point, but she was fairly sure that wasn't it. "So, broke up with Seely, huh? Any particular reason, or is it all the bot's fault."

Parker glared at the bot, who started playing Here Comes the Rain Again and said, "Too many reasons. And I was dating him for all the wrong ones. Mainly practice, and just to prove I could. He's not a bad guy. But I wasn't going to get past the Angel-resemblance any time soon, sooooo.... time to cut him loose."

Privately, Sam thought Parker might be protesting too much, but she wasn't going to bring it up unless asked. "Someone new on the horizon, or are you going to be footloose and fancy-free for a while?"

Parker turned red, but managed a calm, "No, there's no one new on the horizon. Footloose sounds good. Maybe go out with a couple other guys casually. If any have the guts to date me." The blush faded, and she said, "Remember the nets and all."

"Welcome to being an intelligent woman who isn't afraid to kick ass, Parker," Sam sighed, not unsympathetically. "It's not always attractive to guys. But the ones who like it?" She grinned. "Those are worth keeping."

Parker looked rueful. "Too bad most of the ones I know are taken. It's enough to make me call Lee in another galaxy. Or try to find out what Archie's doing these days." She grinned suddenly. "Think I could pick up souvenir guy in Tortall this weekend? Maybe one of Alanna's friends will be susceptible."

"Yeah, Lee," Sam wondered what he was up to. "And I don't know about Tortall--aren't they the reason Alanna is here?"

"True. But for a weekend thing, maybe they wouldn't care about the ass-kicking?" Parker looked stubborn, then grimaced. "Or maybe I need to go to Cabo and pick up a pool boy. Or something."

"Or take a break," Sam suggested seriously. "Let yourself heal, a little, maybe?"

Parker looked down at her Jimmy Choos. "It's been months. Two and a half. How long is it going to take?"

Parker kicked off a shoe and threw it at the bot.

Sam snickered. "I don't know, Parker, how long should it take? I finally got over O'Neill for good sometime in the last month. Not that I didn't love Jack, er, Harkness, before then, but I don't ache anymore when I think about Jack O'Neill. That was, what, over a year?"

Parker stared at her in horror. "Please be joking. A year? Jesus!" She glared at the bot, who was continuing on with the Bonnie Raitt and One Part Be My Lover, and dancing little circles around her shoe. "I'm glad you're over O'Neill, but... this does not bode well. Especially when the Ex evidently will be showing up places just to freak me out, now."

"Well, we had an unrequited thing for eight years," Sam explained, "so it made a difference. And wait, freak you out? What'd your pet asshole do now?"

Parker chuckled at the designation, then said, "Well, Jarod and I were best friends for seven years. I miss that just as much as anything else. And he showed up at the Teal Dear concert in West Virginia, made snarky remarks about me dating Seely, kissed me, then left." She turned bright red again. "There may have been a slap in there, somewhere. I do not get him at all."

"Please tell me you slapped him, and not vice versa?"

Parker rolled her eyes. "Yes, it was me slapping him. And telling him to get the hell away from me. Which he did." She pushed her hair back, gritting her teeth. "After six weeks of ignoring me, he shows up to twit me about who I'm dating? Jealousy, maybe, but does that make sense to you? At all?"

"Sounds like jealousy, or maybe he's worried you'll forget him, or about his place in your life," Sam shrugged, beginning to put her little bot back together, "or maybe he's just being a jerk and can't stand the idea of you being with someone else."

Parker snorted. "Fat chance of that when he's on the Radio all the time with... whoever." She rubbed her temples, and watched the bot sing Alcohol again. "Gahhhhh. It's almost enough to make me wish for amnesia. It was never this complicated before Jarod." Giving up on the subject for the time being, she said, "Did you ever figure out how that thing works?"

Oh, look, jealousy was a two-way street with Parker. "What thing? I, er, take things apart all the time to find out how they work. I need you to be more specific."

"The bot." Parker stared at the one still doing a little cha-cha around her shoe. "Is there a way to make it play happy songs only?"

"Aside from applied concentration."

[ooc: and I take off for work. *waves]

"I think Lorne said it's responsive to mood?" Sam said, "So, the answer is to...be in a good mood."

Parker stuck out her tongue at the bot again.

"Or not," Sam said, snickering.
