Sam discovered that googling "how to find the right college" brought back 6,300 links. He was currently in the process of attempting to shrink that number down.

"Good morning, Sam," Yomiko said as she entered the library, juggling an armload of books.

"Good morning, ma'am. Do you need help with any of those?" he asked, pointing to the books.

"Oh, no, if I can't manage a stack of books, I don't deserve to be a librarian," Ms. Readman said as she let the books fall onto a table.

Sam is off at his Prophecy lab, but there might be someone else around to help you.

Ms. Readman was behind the front desk, folding little origami people and making them dance with each other.

Back from class, Sam went back to the computer and proceeded to geek out over sample SAT questions.

Willow wandered in, carrying a bag that was heavy with books. "Hey Sam."

"Hey Willow," he said, smiling. "What's up?"

"Mind if I occupy library space for a bit?" she asked. "I'm working on a spell and I always feel more witchy in libraries."

"Oh, no, go right ahead." He only waited a few moments before curiosity took over. "What kind of spell are you working on?"

"A Willowcator spell," she said, more than happy to geek out and explain. "That way if I ever get kidnapped by trolls or, well, anyone else really, I can do a little spell so I can get found again."

Sam perked up at the thought of something like that. "Oh wow, that's a really good idea. Uh, speaking from the perspective of someone who gets kidnapped a little more often than he should, I mean."

"You too, huh?" Willow said, with sympathy. "What is it about the bad guys that makes them zero in on folks like us?"

"Maybe we're just too cute and wonderful for them to resist?" Sam suggested.

"I like your theory," Willow said. "Plus I bet they can tell we're all smart and crafty, so they want to take us down pretty quickly."

"Exactly. Because if we stay free, they know they'll be in trouble. Big, brainy trouble."

"Never mess with the brainy types," Willow agreed with a solemn nod.

"Maybe once we defeat enough things with the power of our IQs, word will spread." Sam smiled and nodded to Willow. "I'll let you get on with your witchy research. You look pretty stocked up book-wise, but if you need help with anything, just let me know."

"Will do!" Willow said. "Thanks, Sam!"

Then he went to put books away and make sure that everything was in order. The bell on the desk could be rung to get his attention.

John came into the library in his getup for the pageant. Yes, that included dress, heels, and hair.

He figured he might as well see if Sam was ready for the pageant.

Sam nearly dropped the stack of books he was carrying when he spotted John in his outfit. "Well, hi there Johnina. Long time, no see."

John smirked at the almost book dropping. "She's outta town. I'm just John dressed as a girl today. Pageant garb. Better than the picnic table I was last year."

"I'd ask what a picnic table has to do with the holidays, but I think I'm afraid to find out. But hey, at least picnic tables don't require heels," Sam pointed out.

"Awww, you get kinda used to them after awhile," John said, leaning against the desk. "I could let you borrow a pair of mine."

Sam's eyes widened a little as he quickly shook his head. "Uh, that's okay. Seriously. I'm more of a sneaker kind of guy."

"Oh, come on." John took off the heels and plunked them on the desk. "I won't tell anyone."

"I really don't think that would be a good idea," he protested, looking between John and the heels. "I might break them."

"I dare you," John said. Hey, it worked for some people.

Sam twitched a little, because that did work quite well on him. "If I do this, what will I get out of it? Besides a possible sprained ankle."

"Name it," John replied. "You do it and you set what I gotta do."

Sam had to think about that, because he wasn't sure about what sorts of things John wouldn't do. "Uh, okay. If I do it, you have to stay dressed like a girl after the pageant. At least for a little while." That seemed equally embarrassing, at least to Sam.

"That's fair," John said and shrugged. "I'll take that deal."

He held the heels out to Sam.

"Why do I have a feeling that I'm going to regret this anyway?" Sam asked, kicking off his own shoes as he took the heels from John.

"Because you're paranoid," John suggested, stepping back to give Sam ample room to fall, if needed.

"Wisely paranoid," Sam corrected. There was a fair bit of wobbling involved in getting the heels on, and he ended up sticking both of his arms out to hold his balance. "Whoa. Suddenly I have a new appreciation for girls who dress up a lot."

"Those do make you a lot taller," John said, trying not to laugh.

"Oh good, because I totally need help with that." Sam laughed, and then attempted to take a step, the key word being attempted. "How the hell do you walk in these things?"

The library is closed for lunch, unless you're the librarian or an aide.

Sam hung around after lunch for as long as he could. Not that he was avoiding having to get ready for the pageant or anything.
