Good Omens...And Bad: Prophecy in Theory and Practice: Lab Twelve - Period 2

Wilson had carefully dethawed and in some instances reheated the baked goodies that Phale had made and left for his Prophecy class. Schleping them up to the school, the young doctor headed into the class room and supressed a sigh at the homey configuration that reminded him of it's missing professor.

Setting up the baked nummies along with a group of hot beverages ranging from cider to cocoa, Wilson got himself some hot cider and a few gingersnap cookies and then settled down in an armchair to wait for the students to arrive.

When everyone was settled and in their seats, Wilson stood up, carefully took roll then set his cider aside for a moment.

"Good morning. As I'm sure you are all aware, Professor Aziraphale has had to leave us for a bit and I am helping his TAs cover his classes. Aziraphale left behind handouts for today's lab exercises and if you have any questions about the material, please speak with Miss Halliwell or Miss Belacqua. I will also be here if you have any general questions or concerns. Also, I wanted to let you all know that I am looking forward to today's performance. I have a video camera and will be taping it for Aziraphale to enjoy if when he returns."

Giving the class a reassuring smile, Wilson walked to where the handouts were sitting on the desk and began to pass them out to the class.

LAB TWELVE (FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, SECOND PERIOD)

LECTURE: Onomancy (also sometimes referred to as onomamancy)is the process of divination through one’s name. This style is more frequently seen in China and Japan, where the characters used to spell a name also hold other meanings. It can, however, be done using the traditional meanings of Western names as well.
Onomancy Handout

Graphology, or handwriting analysis, also has a parallel in the
scientific world. The difference is that while the science of analyzing handwriting is done to produce an understanding of the writer’s personality, the divinatory skill is used to produce a prediction for the writer.
Graphology Handout

LAB EXERCISE: Using your handouts, do a name or handwriting divination for yourself or for your lab partner.

[NOTE: This graphology link is available if you want to do a “real” handwriting analysis. This onomancy link
will do name analysis for you.]

[ooc: OCDs for Prophecy Class are on the way up. Class is in session, have at!]

Anders? So opting for graphology, just so he wouldn't have to deal with his first name.

John turns to his lab partner. "So you wanna do the handwriting thing or the name thing?"

Blair was sitting uncomfortably on a cushion and frowning at what his name meant. "I'm not a superior, interfering know-it-all."

Bel peered at his results. "The name Belthazor creates the urge to be self-expressive and responsible, but it can cause an argumentative, impulsive, and extravagant nature if it is not combined with a balanced last name. Your first name of Belthazor has given you the vision and foresight to be able to organize others and to hold positions of responsibilities with poise and self-confidence. This name creates an optimistic outlook on life and favourable conditions in your personal affairs. You have the ability to express your thoughts and ideas, and you are friendly, likeable, and generous."

He blinked at Blair. "Where do they come up with this crap?"

Re: Lab Exercise

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-12-08 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Blair tried really hard not to laugh. Really. "Uh...well...some of that is true?"
demonbelthazor: (*glare*)

Re: Lab Exercise

[personal profile] demonbelthazor 2006-12-08 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't particularly have an optimistic outlook on life and favourable conditions in my personal affairs," Bel said sourly.

Re: Lab Exercise

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-12-08 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, the optimistic outlook is a choice." Blair smiled. "You wanna talk to me about what was going on Wednesday?"
demonbelthazor: (Looking down)

Re: Lab Exercise

[personal profile] demonbelthazor 2006-12-08 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Bel looked down. "I'mhumannow," he mumbled.

"You're who what now?" Blair leaned forward.
demonbelthazor: (Headtilt)

Re: Lab Exercise

[personal profile] demonbelthazor 2006-12-08 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Bel sighed. "I'm human now?"

Re: Lab Exercise

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-12-08 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Are not." Blair tilted his head to check out his friend.
demonbelthazor: (Contemplative)

Re: Lab Exercise

"Am too," Bel insisted.

Re: Lab Exercise

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-12-08 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ar-" Blair shook his head and decided that wasn't very productive. "Let's pretend we played that game for a while."

"How? When? Why?"
demonbelthazor: (*glare*)

Re: Lab Exercise

[personal profile] demonbelthazor 2006-12-08 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Marty," Bel growled. "Hit me with a power-stripping potion. It killed the demon half of me...."

Yes, he was still a little bitter about that.

Re: Lab Exercise

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-12-08 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Bastard." Blair glared, totally shocked that Marty would do that. "Are you okay? Are you in pain? Did you go to the clinic?"
demonbelthazor: (Looking down)

Re: Lab Exercise

[personal profile] demonbelthazor 2006-12-08 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing the clinic can do," Bel said quietly. "That part of me is...just gone."

He should feel better about that than he did.

"I'm sorry, man. That's got to suck." Blair shook his head. "How are you doing?"
demonbelthazor: (Contemplative)

Re: Lab Exercise

[personal profile] demonbelthazor 2006-12-08 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, I guess," he said. "It's just taking a little getting used to. And I'm worried about my father's soul."

Pippi's full name is Pippilotta Viktualia Rollgardina Schokominza Efram's Daughter Longstocking... So she leaves it up to her lab partner as to which divination technique they should do...

Sam wondered if his name was even long enough to do onomancy, especially since he didn't have a middle name. "Maybe we should do the handwriting technique?" he suggested.

Re: Lab Exercise

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-12-08 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Pippi nodded. "Sure! Would you like to go first or shall I?"

Your name causes a superior, interfering quality that tends to resent the opinions of others. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses or accidents to the head, worry and mental tension.

Oh, that was just spectacular. Dawn wondered if it was too late to change her name. Luckily, it got better.

The first name of Dawn leads you to assume considerable responsibility and to prefer to work independently, without direction or interference from others because you have very definite ideas of your own.

That she knew.

Your mind is quick to comprehend and you can be depended upon to do any job well. Because you tend to be somewhat of a perfectionist, you might insist on doing too many things yourself instead of delegating jobs to others who might do less satisfactory work.

Also true. And something she'd probably be hearing about from Giles at some point.

This name does make you quite direct and straight-to-the-point.

Dawn snickered. Yeah, okay, that was true, too. But with her family, someone had to be.
