Philosophy of Values: Thursday Period 3 - Class #13

As promised, there was hot chocolate to go with the pastries and doughnuts that Wilson had brought in for his class. As for Wilson himself, he was sitting behind his desk, nibbling on half a dry bagel and drinking what looked like a container of juice. He also had sunglasses on.

It was a fashion statement. It was a fashion statement that said ‘why yes, indeed I am hungover, thank you for asking, and now please stop breathing so loudly’.

When the students were settled down in their seats, Wilson tossed his quarter nibbled bagel into the trash and stood up, hugging his orange juice like a life line.

“Morning.” He said in a soft voice that still managed to carry through the whole of the room.

“Well, we’re in the final stretch. Next week there will be a review of the material we’ve covered this semester in preparation for your final exam. I will also be collecting your projects next week so consider that your homework for this week. Also, if you have any specific questions regarding anything you feel might be on the exam, please be prepared to ask them next week in class.”

Orange juice swig!

“Alright, I was very pleased with last week’s tests. I’ll have to return them to you tomorrow because I was lucky to find the floor this morning let alone my briefcase I left them at home. I do have your grades in my grade book however, if you want to stop by after class and learn your mark.”

Swig!

Lecture:

“Today I want to talk about the Aesthetic way of thinking vs the Pragmatic school of philosophy.”

Setting down his orange juice, Wilson moved to the overhead and might have seemed slightly relieved to be turning down the lights, despite the fact that he still wore his sunglasses.

After he was done with the lecture and with picking through the slightly confusing concepts put up on the overhead, Wilson left the lights off as he moved to the front of the class to open the floor up for discussion. If anyone wanted to point out he’d left the lights off that was fine…but cruel.

Class Discussion:

“So how do you define if you are applying your gift for an aesthetic or a pragmatic reason? Do you think it has to be one or the other? A lot of people will tell you that aesthetic value is in the eye of the beholder and it’s come to have a bit of a frivolous connotation. What do you think of that? Should something be cast aside or set as a lower priority just because it’s pleasing to the eye? Does something have to be pragmatic in nature to have high value?”

[ooc: OCDs are on the way up! Class is in session!!]

"105?" Blair asked quickly. "Out of what?"

There was a brief pause and then Blair bounced very high. "Awesome!"
