Laura stood at the front of the classroom, clad in a bulky grey sweater, her hair having air-dried to a very natural wave. She clutched a coffee cup in one hand as she hugged herself in an effort to keep warm. It might have been readily apparent that she hadn’t been resting well.

“Good morning,” she said, forcing a presidential smile. “I’m glad to see each of you made it through the weekend safely.” She didn’t mention that she had spent the weekend holed up in her apartment, trying to make sense out of the reality she found herself in. Logic and order had eventually won out – but not before it had caused her a few sleepless nights.

“Because we didn’t get everything done, we’ll be continuing from last week’s group activity. Well, with one slight alteration: As some of you might have guessed, the Cylons have followed the Colonials to Earth. They are not firing yet; their major demand is that you turn over the Colonial fleet. Beyond this, they say they only come in peace. It is up to you to determine your policy and help shape the policy of the galaxy.”

A wry grin twitched at the corners of her lips, lighting shadowed eyes. “No pressure, right?” Taking a sip of her coffee, she stood in silence, regarding them for a moment. “Okay, kids. Go to it.”

Laura packed up a few things, including a thermos of coffee, as the students filtered out of the room.

"Hey, Professor Roslin." Parker's bruised but cheerful. Killing things always relaxes her. "How'd you make it through your first invasion?"

"Mainly by curling up with a good book and pretending it didn't happen." She gave a weary smile. "It's ironic, isn't it? My people can fight off invading robots, but I can't seem to wrap my brain around the idea of a troll being real."

Parker cocked an eyebrow. "My first invasion, I was freaking out as the zombies advanced, and running around trying to find cover. I mean, one, gross, and two, total shock. So not so ironic, more typical."

She gave a laugh. "That actually does make me feel a bit better. Everyone else seemed to take it in stride, rushing into the fray."

She shook her head. "I'm definitely the thinker and not the fighter." A bit of a smile lit her eyes as she thought briefly of the deal she and a Colonial commander had once made.

"Not so much in stride, just-- used to it." Parker grinned. "And the upside is all the random silliness, so, we endure." She shrugged. "Thinkers are fighters, they just like to have a better view on the action. But that's my opinion. And I had way too much fun killing trolls this weekend, soooo... biased."

"Maybe I can talk the next conquering army to death." Laura leant against the edge of her desk, folding her arms across her chest. "Or outmatch them in a hopelessly unfair battle of wits?"

"In which case, we can get some of the guys to stand next to you with really big guns, to make sure you get to do that part." Parker grinned. "There have to be some perks to diplomacy, right?"
