Good Omens...And Bad: Prophecy in Theory and Practice, Class Thirteen

Monday, December 4, First Period

There are plenty of bakery items and hot beverages laid out, but the classroom appears to have been rearranged. The chairs and tables are moved to the walls, leaving the center of the room open.

"Good morning, everyone! I want to remind you all that I will be leaving briefly for an assignment. In my absence, Dr Wilson will be conducting class, with the assistance of my TAs. Now today, in lieu of a regular lecture, we're instead going to be rehearsing for the pageant on Friday."

Walter scooted his chair closer to hers. "How is your shoulder this morning?"

"Better than yesterday. Still hurts a little, though."

"Will I have to help you ice it again?"

Nadia rolled her eyes a little. "I can do it. After class. I didn't want to miss anything." Then, because she didn't want to be too irritable and brush him off, "You can help if you want."

He could get used to a reasonable Nadia, but it would it really be the girl he'd fallen for? He'd just have to wait and see.

"That's very generous of you. Will that require more bribery?"

"Hmmm. It might. . . ." She gave him a small smirk. "We'll have to wait and see."

"Right then." There were worse things. Such as....

"I think I have managed to spare people my singing in public for this."

"Oh? Did Aziraphale let you off?"

"I will be dancing instead. He changed his mind about making me sing after I demonstrated my amazing ability to make birds fall stunned from their tree branches."

Okay, so it was exaggeration, but in Walter's opinion, if he was going to sing badly, he was going to be damned good at singing badly.

"So you get to dance, huh? That's cool. I'm almost jealous."

"Jealous that you don't get to dance, too, or jealous that I'll be dancing with Dawn?" Walter teased.

"You'll be dancing with Dawn?" Nadia shook her head. "Jealous that you get to dance. You're dancing with a girl, why would I be jealous of her?"

"You shouldn't be jealous of anyone," Walter said seriously. "Girl or boy."

And he'd been thinking about the elephant in the middle of the room, too, but that was a conversation for another day.

"But you could always ask Mr. Phale if you could dance, too."

Nadia shook her head. "Probably had better not, with this arm. I'm going to need to find someone to play guitar for me, too. I was supposed to do another song."

"Do you have someone in mind?" Pip seemed like a pretty obvious choice, but after the Teal Dear thing, Walter wasn't going to get involved in musical matters between Pip and Nadia.

"I thought I'd ask Pip. I mean, he's the one who first taught me, and it'd be fun to perform with him again. We've done one or two things in music class together."

"Good. That sounds like the best choice and it will give Pippi and I reason to be the loudest people clapping."

"Glad I could help you out with that,"

"And Pippi says I'm a giver..."

"Well, I'm sure you have your moments."

"But you can't think of any? I shall be bereft. I may have to try this emo thing people speak of so much."

Honestly, Nadia was pretty sure that Walter did emo rather well and that she really would rather not see it happen again.

"If you think it would be for the best,"

The deuce you say.

"Probably not. I'm not especially comfortable putting on eye makeup. It's enough just putting in that contact lens."

"I should probably start flattering you soon, then, huh."
