Friday Afternoon Assembly

Josh stood up on the stage, looking distinctly uncomfortable.

It wasn't like someone had given him a microphone and an audience in a while. Not since the whole "secret plan to fight inflation" thing, anyway.

"Welcome to the first game show at Fandom High," he read from his cue card. "Where the questions are just as cracked out as the school." He raised an eyebrow. "Huh. Today we will be vying teachers against students for bragging rights and pie from Jeff, God of Biscuits. The game will be divided into three sections--much like the US government--though the students will be overrepresented because they know that the teachers at this school will kick their butts otherwise with their superior wit and guile."

Josh grinned. "Let the games begin!"

Door blinks. "An accid-- oh! No." She snickers. "She's got all the parts she was originally made with."

Cally nodded. "So, since Bridge made her, she doesn't, like... sneeze lemonade or something, does she?"

Giggle. "No, she dispenses those little brown things."

Cally blinked. "From wheeeere?"

Door blinks too. "Inside her?"

"No, like... where does it dispense the from?"

"Ohhh. There's an opening."

"Where does it open up from? Like, in comparison to a normal bird."

"Oh." Door points to her chest. "She's got a little place where you can hide messages there, and the wee brown sweets come out of it too. They're sort of chocolate but not?"

"Oh, good," Cally said. She hadn't quite put it past Bridge to make a robot bird that... well, let's not go there.

"So she's a carrier pigeon?"

Door shakes her head. "She carries messages, but she's just meant to look like a regular London pigeon. The kind that craps on Lord Nelson. Real carrier pigeons are a different breed."

"Ohhh," Cally said. "I'm not a real big bird type of person, so I didn't know." She nodded. "S'nice of Bridge to do that for you."

"Most people don't," Door answers. "I just looked it up because I was learning the language and the bird I was talking to said carrier pigeons have a funny accent." She grins. "I just asked Bridge if he'd build me some sort of container with a lock that could only be opened by the person I'm sending messages to - it was his idea to make it look like a pigeon."

"That's Bridge for you," Cally said, grabbing more popcorn. "Always handy. And always... unique."
