Friday Afternoon Assembly

Josh stood up on the stage, looking distinctly uncomfortable.

It wasn't like someone had given him a microphone and an audience in a while. Not since the whole "secret plan to fight inflation" thing, anyway.

"Welcome to the first game show at Fandom High," he read from his cue card. "Where the questions are just as cracked out as the school." He raised an eyebrow. "Huh. Today we will be vying teachers against students for bragging rights and pie from Jeff, God of Biscuits. The game will be divided into three sections--much like the US government--though the students will be overrepresented because they know that the teachers at this school will kick their butts otherwise with their superior wit and guile."

Josh grinned. "Let the games begin!"

"Just mice as far as I remember. Mary loved it -- she dragged me to it the first year we were dating. It does have a battle scene though between the mice and the toys."

"Okay, I might be able to work with a battle scene," Zoe said, laughing. "Think we can fit all of this into it?"

John looked at the chest speculatively. "Yeah, I think so." He moved closer to be able to whisper in Zoe's ear and quickly outlined his idea.

Zoe listened carefully and laughed. "That's a pretty good plan," she said appreciatively. "Let's just hope it works."

"I'm still going to feel like a complete idiot," John said, going over and grabbing the tutus and the goat.

"At least we're being idiots together," Zoe replied, grabbing the rest of the props. She might have shot Josh another dirty look as they got set up.

"Just what I always wanted on a date," John quipped. "You, me and a goat."

The goat seemed to be about as thrilled about wearing the tutu as John himself had been but somehow John managed to get it on anyway. He took the other tutu and with a little skill and ingenuity managed to attach it to the first as a makeshift slingshot.

"I think we're ready here," he said, straightening.

After John successfully wrangled the goat, Zoe handed him one of the kazoos. "Okay, let's see how well this works," she said, and used the slingshot to start firing off the soap. If any of it almost hit Josh, it was an accident, really.

"Ack!" Josh said, ducking out of the way. "It's not my fault!"

John put the kazoo in his mouth and hummed his best approximation of the music he remembered from the ballet as he handed the containers of soap to Zoe so they were shooting them off like a well-oiled machine.

Josh seeming to be the target? Sheer coincidence, really.

Josh slid down to hide behind one of the chests.

In a terribly manly way and with a minimum of squeaking, of course.

That didn't seem to deter Zoe and John's efforts as they continued to shoot until they ran out of soap. Zoe hummed along to the best of her ability, but once the soap was gone, she switched to humming a battle charge.

John grinned maniacally around the kazoo as he added his own battle charge, then was up and running towards where Josh was ~~cowering~~ hiding.

"Eek!" Josh absolutely didn't say.

Except for the part where he did.

Zoe took off after John, and when she caught up with him, she began acting out the battle scene, pretending to stab and slice at him with her weapon. The fact that Josh was positioned between them just made things a little more interesting.

John ducked and dodged and threw out some attacks of his own, just happening to use Josh as a shield much of the time.

The music on the kazoos? Had somewhere settled into the Dance of the Sugarplum fairies.

"I didn't know what the card said!" Josh whimpered.

Which, yeah, wasn't exactly true.

Zoe just assumed John was humming the right music, and focused more on the battle part, laughing as she "attacked" John, and Josh a few times too.

It was hard to play a kazoo when you're laughing, John discovered, but he kept at it, going into a finishing flourish and nodding at Zoe as he pressed his final attack, which if he had actually been holding a blade, would've skewered Josh.

Happy to follow John's lead, Zoe finished by also leaning in and "stabbing" Josh.

"Woe, for I am slain!" Josh cried overdramatically, then collapsed to the floor, giggling.

"And now we feed you to our goat cannon," John quipped, spitting out the kazoo and 'sheathing' his imaginary sword.

"...wait. What?"

"Oh don't worry, he's only joking. I think."

"Yeah," John said, still grinning as he reached out a hand to help Josh up. "I don't think it eats meat anyway."
