Self-Defense, Thursday late afternoon, 4pmish

Having sent a *handwavey* e-mail to everyone that Self-Defense was meeting early, Parker made sure the mats were laid out, and that nacho dip and chips and drinks were on a nearby table. She raised one sardonic eyebrow as people filed in.

"Hey. Alanna's sick, still. Or at least really not up to sparring with you guys. So she asked me to fill in, at least on getting you set up. Mr. Winchester might be a little late, he has office hours before this." She smirked. "Just be glad I'm not usually in charge of this club."
all
She went through a few Aikido moves-- the first four throws, holds, and breaking of the same-- pointing out that many Japanese police officers are required to learn some Yoshinkan Aikido in the performance of their job.

"Pair up, and see how these techniques work for you."

[ocd going up. Parker knows Aikido. I don't.]

Teddy took a better stance and nodded.

Billy nodded back, then grabbed, and though he hadn't done this in a while, his muscles remembered how, he then tossed.

Teddy landed hard on his back and let out a surprised yelp. He looked up at Billy. "Way too fast for me. Try that again at half the speed so I can actually see it happen?"

"Actually that would be a bad idea." Billy said. "When it comes to tosses and things like that, you get hurt worse going slow than at full speed."

mun does not know the physics of it but has talked to someone who's done that kind of thing and at half speed it went bad

"Okay then," Teddy said, picking himself up off the floor. "Try something else?"

"Or you could get even, try it on me. I promise not to cheat and land on my feet."

Teddy grinned at that. "I'll hold you to that." He took a deep breath before doing anything. Then he did his best to copy what Parker had shown them, making sure to not use too much strength.

Billy went with the toss, landing safely on his back, with only a short exhalation of breath.

"Well done."

There was a dance of glee at that. Or it might have been a seizure. Teddy really needed to learn how to dance.

He extended his hand to help Billy to his feet. "Try some of the other moves now?"

"Yeah let's do that." Billy said, graciously accepting Teddy's aid to rise.

"How about one of those holds?"

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Sounds good. You go first."

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay." Teddy hoped he didn't do this wrong. He went to grab Billy's wrist to pull into a hold.

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Billy nodded at the familiar hold. "Okay, you got it?" he asked, getting ready to break loose.

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Teddy nodded. "Let me know if I'm holding too tight or anything."

He twisted, trying to do what Parker showed them before.

"No I'm good." he said, and pulled, twisting just the way you were supposed to in order to break loose. Barring superstrength, he should succeed.

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Super-strength? Check.

Teddy tightened his grip, not letting Billy slip out of the hold.

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Billy grunted and frowned as he failed to get out of the hold. That should have worked. Okay so Teddy was a bit stronger than he'd thought.

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Teddy released his hold on Billy's arm. "Want to try putting me in a hold now?"

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2006-11-18 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually I kind of want to try getting out of that hold again. You're stronger than you look."

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-18 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Easier said than done. "If you're sure you want to."

Teddy put Billy back into he same hold as before, making sure to keep his grip firm but not bone crushing.

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2006-11-18 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
The point of many martial arts, is that strength is secondary. Even the tiniest person could get loose from a stronger opponent in they only...

Billy twisted and pulled, slightly different than before, this time, he got loose.

...knew how.

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-18 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Teddy looked surprised. "How'd you do that?"

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2006-11-18 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Holds and breaking them were safe to do at half speed. "Here, get me again I'll do it slower. I doubt it would work a second time, with things like this, surprise is a bonus."

Re: Practice Moves

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-18 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Teddy nodded and pulled Billy's arm back into the hold, watching his movements carefully.
