Students had been ~~handwave~~ alerted to the fact that the class would be held in the Danger Shop today, and so V was waiting for them when they all filed in.

"Good morning," V said as the simulation immediately placed them in the spacious, white lobby of a building. "Today, we'll be doing a tactical simulation. You and the partner you chose last week have a mission: to find the control room at the top of the tower. In it, there is a ticking device, which will have quite an impact on the entire city if you don't stop it. And no, the lifts aren't working. Your mission, young ones, is to make your way to the control room while dodging guards and personnel, and disengage the device using only your available resources, and to do so by the end of the period."

He tilted his head. "And for now, that means wits and no weapons, though you all do get maps of the building. Oh, and a final thing. The building is not empty. This is a business. The civilians haven't any idea what's going on, though, and you mustn't panic them. You may, however, ask them for assistance in such a way as to not alert them to the situation."

V clapped his hands once, and then retreated to fully start the simulation. He didn't want to be in it, if old friends showed up.

"Black's good. Black and green. Can't go wrong with that." He started taking the stairs two at a time as well. "Let's keep away from the spandex though."

"I couldn't agree with you more," Teddy replied, looking up. It didn't seem to be getting any closer. He sighed and trudged on.

"I'd suggest kevlar or something bulletproof."

"No argument from me. Kevlar's saved my ass a few times. It's pretty heavy though. Maybe we can get someone to make something like kevlar but lighter. There's gotta be someone around here who has something like that back home."

The stairs were getting annoying, but they were at least making progress. Slow progress.

Not enough progress for Teddy's liking.

"This sucks!" He whined. "Why couldn't the control room be down on the first floor?"

"Because the guy in the mask hates us." Kawalsky grinned and kept going up the stairs. They passed floor by floor and although Kawalsky's legs were burning by the end of it, they made it to the top. He stopped to catch his breath. "I'm thinking there must've been a faster way we didn't think about."

Teddy opened the door a crack, peering out into the hallway. He waited for Kawalsky to catch his breath before going. "I thought he said that there would people around."

"Maybe they all packed up and went home because it took us so long." It bothered him that Teddy didn't need to catch his breath, but he just channelled that into a mental note to work out more. "C'mon, we probably don't have much time left. If we run into anyone, just act natural."

"Natural. Right." Teddy stepped out into the hallway, holding the door open for Kawalsky. He looked down both ends of the hallway for anyone who might question why they were running around the building.

Right at that moment, a young woman stepped through another door holding folders. She paused, watching them. "Are you the new technical guys? Or actors? Actors aren't actually permitted up here just yet."

"Technicians! We're supposed to go to the control room, but we're a little lost," Teddy lied.

"It's right there," Evey said helpfully, pointing. "You're kind of young. Are we hiring teenagers now?"

"We're interns," Teddy replied, grinning politely and hoping she would leave them alone now. "Thank you for your help!"

He headed off toward where she pointed, assuming that Kawalsky would follow.

Kawalsky grinned his thanks to Evey and followed after Teddy. "Good job. Let's go do this thing."
