fandomhigh | Criminal Justice [first period, Tuesday 11/14]

Students had been ~~handwave~~ alerted to the fact that the class would be held in the Danger Shop today, and so V was waiting for them when they all filed in.

"Good morning," V said as the simulation immediately placed them in the spacious, white lobby of a building. "Today, we'll be doing a tactical simulation. You and the partner you chose last week have a mission: to find the control room at the top of the tower. In it, there is a ticking device, which will have quite an impact on the entire city if you don't stop it. And no, the lifts aren't working. Your mission, young ones, is to make your way to the control room while dodging guards and personnel, and disengage the device using only your available resources, and to do so by the end of the period."

He tilted his head. "And for now, that means wits and no weapons, though you all do get maps of the building. Oh, and a final thing. The building is not empty. This is a business. The civilians haven't any idea what's going on, though, and you mustn't panic them. You may, however, ask them for assistance in such a way as to not alert them to the situation."

V clapped his hands once, and then retreated to fully start the simulation. He didn't want to be in it, if old friends showed up.

"Definitely creepy," Peter agreed. "They obviously aren't putting their minds to use for good if they have enough time to clean all the time." He looked around. "Should we try for stairs?"

"I'd say it sounds good, but that many stairs doesn't sound like fun at all," Luke said, walking towards the staircase.

A thin young woman burst through a door at the end of the hall, and nearly ran into Luke and Peter with a small cart.

"Oh! I'm so sorry," she cried as boxes spilled off the cart. "Sorry." She glanced at them as she bent to pick up the boxes. "Are you here for Mr. Dietrich's show? You look...misplaced."

Luke stared at the girl in front of them.

And stared.

And stared some more.

Higher brain function had ceased.

This...was not that helpful.

Peter tried to elbow Luke discreetly as he bent to help the girl pick up her boxes. "Our fault for being in the way, of course."

"No, no, I wasn't looking," Evey said, a bit flustered. "Do you work for the BTN? I thought I knew everyone by now."

Say something, idiot! Luke brain yelped.

"We're new," he said oh-so-smoothly.

If you ignored the blushing, that is. "We're trying to get up to the tower but the lifts are out."

Peter nodded as he piled the last of the boxes back on her cart. "Would you be so kind as to point out the right way to us? The other girl just said to take the lift which obviously doesn't help."

"They're out again?" Evey groaned. "I thought they fixed the damn things."

She smiled at them. "Through that door and up the stairs to the fifth floor," she said, pointing. "The down the hall, and third door on your right."

She bit her lip, and with a concern look at Luke, added, "Are you sure you wouldn't like some water or tea? I'm an assistant and can fetch you something straight away."

"I'm not sick or anything," Luke babbled, "but I would love to stay for tea or water or snacks or anything."

Totally forgetting about the mission, yup.

Peter glanced at Luke in surprise then looked apologetically at Evey. "It's very sweet of you to offer, but we must be going. We're expected upstairs quite soon."

Evey glanced at her watch. Filming didn't start for another half hour. "I understand. Erm, break a leg, I suppose," she said with a slightly doubtful smile.

"If I break any limbs at all, you'll be the first to know!" Luke chirped.

Evey stared at Luke for a moment, gave an uncomfortable little laugh, and said, "...all right, then. Goodbye." And with that, she pushed her cart down the hall.

Peter stared at Luke as well before calling a "thank you!" after Evey.

He pushed the door to the stairs open. "Unless tea is a better option?" he teased.

"Did you see her?" Luke said, bouncing his way up the stairs.

Peter tried very hard not to laugh as he followed Luke. "Yep, she was right in front of us."

"With the hair and the eyes and the..." Luke flailed more. "I think she'd be very upset if I broke something," he decided.

Luke was forgetting that she wasn't, you know, real.

"We need to find you a girl," Peter decided as they reached the fourth floor landing. "Can't have you falling for simulations all the time."

"It's not all the time," Luke protested, blushing. "Okay," he said, getting serious. "Time to be sneaky. Han's always told me that if you pretend to know what you're doing, most of the time no one will question you."

Peter nodded and assumed his best regal 'I have every right to be here' posture. "Down the hall, third door on the right, she said."

Luke straightened his shoulders and then stepped out into the hallway, looking terribly determined.

"Third door on the right," he repeated.

As they made their way down to the door, Peter pretended he was walking down the halls of Cair Paravel. It was a pretense made difficult by the fact that Cair Paravel was never this clean.

He pulled open the door for Luke. "Here we go."

Luke took a deep breath. "Here we go, (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1111062.html?thread=62661398#t62661398)" he echoed.
