Friday Assembly/Recital

The auditorium stage has been transformed into a series of moving sets and curtains. After the students and faculty take their seats Lorne steps out and waves to the crowd. "Hey all you groovy cats and kittens out there! Thanks for coming today! All my music students are very excited to perform for you today and can't wait to get things started. So without any more delay? Let's light this firecracker!"

Jaye hasn't moved, despite the disco. Also, her words are kind of spoken.

"Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan. Now you."

And then she takes a giant, huge step back so all the attention is on Lorne.

It's true. The music is going to get you.

It's gotten to Lorne especially. He's now dancing back toward Jaye and trying to her to do the "bump" with him.

Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again

Jaye might move sideways a little as she hadn't been expecting the bump. And then she's trying to do that thing where she tenses up as much as possible, much like those people standing up on buses who don't really have anything to hold onto so they think if they just stay nice and rigid they're not going anywhere.

So this is where she is when she goes on to her next part.

"Every streetlamp
Seems to beat a fatalistic warning
Someone mutters
And the streetlamp gutters
And soon it will be morning."

She never could have hit those notes anyway.

You know that move of MC Hammers? When he's moving sideways in that video "Can't touch this"? Yeah. He's doing that.

Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I musn't give in
When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin

Jaye's too busy staring, and she kind of misses her cue. Which means she jumps in a little late, trying to keep up with the music, even if she's still only really saying the words.

"Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
The streetlamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning."

Somehow she finishes ahead of the music.

Lorne reaches out to Jaye, beckoning her from across the stage to take his hand.

Touch me
It's so easy to leave me
All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me
You'll understand what happiness is!

Jaye does take his hand, just because she feels like she needs some sort of support.

"Look
A new day has begun."

Which is kinda anticlimactic the way Jaye's been performing.

Lorne doesn't notice. He takes a huge bow.

Jaye kinda does a quick little bow, worried about flashing the audience. "Ohmygodweleavenowright?"

"What?! No Encore?"

Jaye drops her arms and actually flails.

Lorne thinks she's dancing so he starts doing jazz hands.

Okay, that Jaye and do, and totally does it.

What? It's practically an automatic response by now.

Molly laughed and applauded loudly. "Yay, Jaye!"

Parker was chortling and applauding from the wings. Yay, no one would remember her after this!

Kawalsky may have been a little 'whoa momma' speechless at the costume, but eventually even he couldn't help but try not to laugh. The result? Very very cramped sides. Ow. "ENCORE! ENCORE!" he shouted at the end.
