Through a Glass Darkly: Spies and Spying; Week 8 - Period 3

When the students entered, the class was again set up with locks, lock picks, and the pick-pocketing training tools.  Aly was not, however, wandering around the classroom, she was up at the front, fiddling with a particularly fussy lock she'd picked up.  Best not to ask where, really.

She looked up with a smile once everyone had arrived.  "I'm very sad to say that we don't have class next week.  It's your midterm break, and I'm told there's a holiday of some sort to celebrate.  So I'm certain everyone will have a good time with that and not miss your classes in the slightest.  I, however, will miss all of you."  She winked.

"So today we're going to review the seven classes we've had thus far.  I considered a surprise test, but that seemed to be overly harsh considering the weekend some of you had."

Aly moved to the board where the pertinent points of the past seven classes were written neatly.

Introduction and Memory Games
Ten Rules to Get You Thinking
Origins of Espionage and Simple Ciphers
Lockpicking and Pick-pocketing
Evaluating Personality Types
Meeting People and Convincing Them to Like You
Telling Lies and Getting Away With Them

She quickly ran through the pertinent points of each lesson, stopping for questions when necessary and generally giving an overview of the class thus far.

"Is everyone on the same page now?  Does any one have any questions about any of the topics or how they fit together into the basics of espionage?"

After any questions were answered, she grinned.  "Right then, I have two assignments for you today.  One is to practice with lockpicks and pick-pocketing again.  If any of you have been practicing on your own?  This is where to show off.  For the second, I've divided you up into two groups.  Recruiters and Recruits.  Recruiters?  Your job is to use the skills you've learned to try to convince a recruit to join your cause.  It can be anything from a country's service to supporting a baseball go Tigers team to wearing only red on Wednesdays.  Recruits?  Make the recruiters work for it.  If there's time, switch about and let the recruits try their own skills out."

[OOC: Yes, OCD is coming up.  Who's surprised, really? OCD is up]

"Really?" He unscrewed the top of the bottle, almost completely full, and started to swish it back and forth absent mindedly.

Setsuna stared more, colour draining entirely from her face. Her skin looked almost translucent, eyes shifting as it watched the swishing water. Her mouth went dry, and she forced down a gulp. Would he really do it? Would he call her bluff?

...Of course he would. He was a Hitachiin. Even if Setsuna was lying, he'd pull some sort of weird enjoyment out of at least getting her drenched.

"Okay, fine! Congratulations, you've recruited me."

He took a sip and closed the bottle. "Great! I'll tell you when me and Kaoru are gonna go then."

"You and...Dammit, Hikaru!" Her foot stamped on the floor. "I should have known that was you! You had me going there because you were actually nice to be in the beginning there." She glowered at him, crossing her arms over her chest and turning her chin up.

He places his hand on her head as he walks past her, snickering. "I'm capable. You just never catch me at the right times."

The glower deepens at his condensending gesture to her. As he walked past, she reached out and grabbed his wrist. Like she was going to let him leave on that note. "Hey, wait. I'm supposed to try to recruit you to something now."

"Oh? Alright. Have at it." He kindly takes his wrist back and stands still, water bottle still at hand.

Damn that water bottle. Setsuna considered him and her possibile approaches carefully. So she went with what she knew best. "So. Hikaru. How'd you like to hunt some demons?"

He opens his mouth and then shuts it again. He had to remind himself that this was not a real offer, so agreeing right away was going to do him no good. "Sounds dangerous."

"Only if you are unprepared," Setsuna told him, "but, I assure you, my team and myself are highly experienced and we know what we're doing. All the right tools, all the right equipment, all the right knowledge."

"Prove it. What's your evidence that you're so 'experienced'?"
