Music is Love - Seventh Period [10/24]

Lorne is sitting back in the lounge area sipping a refreshing beverage as the students file in. Behind him is a clothes rack with various costumes.

"Hey kittens! The big recital is coming up on Friday. Take your time today to work on your act and try out your costumes. If you need any help your Uncle Lorne is right here to guide you. JD? Peter? See me when you have a moment."

Parker's expression gets stuck on oh noooooo. "Costumes?"

He plopped it on his head, run his fingers sharply around the rim as he pulled it down slightly over his eyes, and turned to the others in class. "What'ya think?"

Now if only he could find a sharp pair suspenders and some suade shoes (oh, wait, he had those), he would have this smooth 50s gambler style down. Well, a smooth Mexican 50s gambler but, hey, his song was from a musical that took place in Havana...

"Can't I just wear all black so I can like, make a statement?" Like omg, I can't believe I'm doing this let me hide.

"For such a bright and cheery song it doesn't fit the mood," Lorne replied picking out something from the rack ~~that you can totally pick yourself omg~~ and holding it up for Jaye to see. "What about this?"

"It's... bright and cheery all right," Jaye frowns. "But really, I'm thinking I don't want it to be about me as much as it's about the music, you know?"

Hey, maybe it'll work.

"Perhaps this is more your style?" Lorne said pulling out a certain costume (http://www.costumesbuycostumes.com/details.asp?prodid=300100&cat=33000&path=30000,33000). "It would certainly fit with the theme of your song."

"...No power on this Earth could make me wear that."

"Is there a bottom to i- OH MY GOD are those leg warmers?"

"It's leftover from the disco version of Felines," Lorne replied. "Oooo! Maybe you can sing Memories!"

Nadia flipped through the costumes with no idea what to pick for her song. Honestly, it was the teensiest bit disturbing, though she hadn't put her finger on quite why yet. . . .

Ah. There. A small, frilly yellow sun dress, white knee socks, and patent leather mary-janes. Give her a lollypop bigger than her head and . . . the picture gets even more disturbing. . . .

Peter picked up a pair of leather pants and a frilly white shirt. He was wondering why the seams of the ugly ass shirt had velcro on them until he realized what it was. "Wow! A stipper shirt! I've always wanted one of those!"

He also found a cool leather dog collar that he thought added a sophisticated touch to his outfit.

Zero flailed at the schoolgirl costume she found on the rack. "Can't I just wear my own performance clothes? I have lotsa them!" Okay, so sometimes she performed in a t-shirt and ripped jeans. It fit her aesthetic.

"Do they have sequins?" Lorne asked hopefully.

"...no," Zero admitted. "But they have safety pins! Lots and lots of safety pins!"

"Well if they're shiny safty pins I can work with that," Lorne replied making a note.

"I'll see what I can do," Zero said, taking the schoolgirl costume in case she wasn't able to rustle up something she thought would meet Lorne's standards.

"Lorne!" Sam yelled, glaring at the costume rack and the pink gingham dress, apron and bonnet. The Asgard couldn't have picked this weekend to abduct her? "This isn't at all funny."

"What? You want some sequins? Maybe glitter?" Lorne asked.

"There's a bonnet," she glared at him. "And no sequins or glitter."

"Sandra! Sandra! Sandra! It's all about the song and the role you play!" Lorne said trying to throw his arm around Sam. "You can't go out there in an evening dress with a number like this. You have to play a role! Now maybe we can get some rhinestones on that bonnet. Make it SPARKLE!"

"No rhinestones!" Sam protested, horror-struck at the though of her looking like a countrified disco ball in front of everyone she knew. "It's a guy's song, anyway. Can't I wear a pair of denim overalls, like a farmer?"

"Oh honey. This isn't a drag show. It's a recital," Lorne said completely forgetting a couple of numbers that will be performed this evening. "At least the bonnet will cover your haircut."

"Yes, but it's a guy's song," she argued again with what she thought was perfect logic, "and if I'm going to be in character, shouldn't I be dressed like the character?"

She put her hands on her hips. "And what's wrong with my hair?"
