Seimei entered the classroom giving the current students a sharp eyed gaze before smiling. He glided over to unroll the discussion question scroll.

What responses did Croesus get from the oracles regarding his intentions of attacking the Persians? How did he react?

After putting up his scroll, he unrolled a second one. “You will also have an essay due September 29, covering this topic.”

One salient feature of Herodotus’ narrative is his extensive treatment of non-Greek customs and religion. By analyzing particular examples, examine whether Herodotus portrays non-Greeks in a favorable or unfavorable way.

“Please drop by the roster page to verify your name is on the roll for the correct class. I will be keeping stricter tally of who shows up in class and who does not.”

Croesus was told by the oracles of Delphi that if he attacked Persia, he would destroy a great empire. Seeing this as an obvious sign that the gods favored HIS empire, he waged war. Obviously not understanding the true will of the Gods and semantics, he didn't realize that the oracle said "a" great empire and did not name Persia as that empire in question. By attacking a superior force, Croesus' own empire was crushed proving that the words of the prophets are double-edged swords no matter how distractingly hot those oracles are.

((ooc: lol He's Bagoas, a real historical ancient Persian. Poor thing has a bit of difficulty with modern humor. He lived a long time before the name of his country was most associated with cats. *grin*))
