Detention [Saturday, October 14, all day]

The Danger ~~Room~~ Shop had been configured into a series of stark detention cells.

Vader checked off the names of the students as they entered detention and wordlessly pointed them to their own room.

"You will sit in there for a period of time and think about what you did to get in here," he growled as the interrogation droid that his Ethics students would recognize hovered behind him. "And if you are not feeling as...repentant...as you should be, you will continue to stay in that cell all. day. long."

The doors slammed shut behind each student, leaving them in darkness.

OOC: ETA: I have plans for tonight, woe, so I will pick up all hanging pings in the morning. Your characters got out of detention around 5 o'clock Fandom time and Vader was pissy all. day. long. Thanks for playing!!

The room shifted around her and Rory would find herself in a briefing room surrounded by other pilots. "We've received word from Grand Moff Tarkin that the technical readouts for the Death Star have been stolen," the man standing in the front of the room began. Under the professional veneer, there was a definite note of fear in his voice. "The thief hasn't gotten far, though."

A schematic of a ship--an X-Wing--flashed onto the screen behind the commander. "We need to destroy this ship before the information can get to the Rebellion." He clapped his hands together sharply. "To your ships! And if you don't destroy the Rebel ship..." his voice trailed off ominously. "Lord Vader will be most displeased. It would be better not to come back at all."

Rory snorted inside her helmet, because "Grand Moff Tarkin" was pretty much the most unfortunate name she'd ever heard.

She collected herself, however, and straightened up before following the other pilots out. Most of them seemed to know where they were going.

The pilots all hustled down to a hanger bay full of TIE fighters. "Hurry up!" one called to Rory as he raced past. "I'm not getting executed because of your incompetence!"

He waved her towards an empty ship and waited for her to strap in.

Rory climbed into the TIE fighter and strapped in quickly. "Sorry," she muttered.

"You're my wing," the pilot said through Rory's headset. "And that X-Wing's not just waiting for us." His ship blasted out into space. "MOVE!"

The program had not given students more skills than they already possessed on any equipment they would be using, though.

Rory bit her lip, and fumbled with the controls.

After what was probably three seconds too long, she jolted out after the other pilot, going much faster than she was really comfortable with.

"Took you long enough," her wingman snapped as space filled up with the other TIE fighters. "Let's get to this Rebel scum before the others do."

Without another word he went racing towards the small white blip far away from their Star Destroyer.

Rory followed, throwing her weight into the accelerator and rocketing unsteadily after him.

"What is it we're supposed to do to it?" she asked the other pilot. "Are we taking prisoners?"

The pilot snorted. "Do you see a place to store a prisoner? We blow him out of the sky and pray that we did it fast enough to please Lord Vader."

On Rory's navigational screen, blips that were tagged as other TIE fighters were swarming in behind them.

The X-Wing in front, colored red on the screen to denote an enemy target, was joined by eleven friends.

This was going to get ugly.

"Break starboard!" her wingman shouted just before his TIE disintegrated in a blast of laser fire.

TIEs didn't have shields.

"Oh, shit," Rory yelped, veering away from her ex-wingman and barrel-rolling.

No, not on purpose. Like Rory could do something that cool on purpose? It was more of an oh-crap-don't-wanna-die manuever than anything else.

And yes, she was trying to shoot at the X-Wings. She could apologize to Luke later.

The Rebel pilots targeted her immediately. They could tell lucky flailing from actual skill.

An X-Wing zipped up from behind. The alarms in the TIE fighter blared and then the world went white.

...and Rory found herself back in the mission briefing.

Rory was still gasping shakily, but this time, she at least had a head start.

That's why she ran straight to the TIE fighter, actually keeping the same pace as her wingman, and shot out after him much more confidently.

"Let's get to this Rebel scum before the others do," her wingman said ~~again~~ as they raced towards the X-Wing.

On Rory's navigational screen, blips that were tagged as other TIE fighters were swarming in behind them.

The X-Wing in front, colored red on the screen to denote an enemy target, was joined by eleven friends.

Time to act fast if she wanted to change the outcome.

Rory thought quickly and ducked down, leaving the other TIE fighters as much more likely targets as she darted around to the far side towards the targetted X-Wing, hoping that the others would be busy with their skirmish.

Most of them were, but the X-Wing's wingman had tracked onto Rory's position and was just out of weapons range, but closing fast.

Rory would have about three seconds to kill the X-Wing in front of her before his wingman caught up.

Rory locked onto the target and fired frantically, then bolted out of the way without seeing whether she had hit him or not. Little bit concerned with making sure the wingman didn't get her.

The shots had damaged the X-Wing's rear shields but hadn't destroyed it.

Rory's movements had brought her out of the range of the wingman's guns, though.

He was swinging around for another pass but it would take him at least ten seconds.

Rory grit her teeth, swooped forward, and fired again at the X-Wing.

This time she didn't bolt immediately. She just fired continuously.

The X-Wing in front of her exploded and the program ended.

Vader nodded at her.
