Intro to 21st Century American Culture - Monday - Period Five

"Good afternoon, everyone," Lorelai greeted the class after everyone had entered and taken a seat. "I hope you all had a chance to do your homework and watch a sitcom this past week, though with all the excitement of Homecoming, I'd understand if you didn't."

She began a lecture on the history and various types of sitcoms.

"And in case some of you didn't have a chance to watch a sitcom, I'm going to show you some clips of a very popular show, Buddies."

Rachel on the plane to London, Rachel & Monica double date with some cute doctors they met at the hospital, and Monica sings at Mike's piano bar.

"Next week we're going to cover police and law dramas, so if you have a chance to catch one before then, please do. If not, I'll show you clips again next week."

Gwynn was thinking that most people in these clips were crazy.

"Is any of this even normal behavior," she asked Pete. "I mean, not where I come from... but does this happen where you're from?"

Gwynn frowned at the clips again. "These people just don't seem to make that much sense."

Gwynn smiled at him thoughtfully and looked back at the screen. "I wonder if Ms. Lorelai would be able to give us some background on these insane people?"

Gwynn thought about this. "You make a very good point and I think I may ask her after class is over as I would not want to embarrass her in front of the other students if she cannot answer the question for us."
