Flight Club, Monday, 4 pm in the flight shed

Aeryn gets to the flight shed early, watching everyone arrive. When it looks like everyone's there, she goes straight into her talk. Someone might someday teach her the value of 'hello.'

"Today we're going to work on something from Earth," she says. "It's called a F/A-18E Super Hornet, and while it doesn't go into space, it is actually in use today. Personally I like space flying better, but this isn't bad. The controls are a little different than last week, but I'll be there to help if you need it." She's very good at not facepalming at those who probably will.

[With OCD in one second... yay!]

"Me, too," Luke admitted as he made the simulator climb to the correct altitude. "This isn't nearly as intuitive," he commented. "You have to pull a lot harder."

Luke grinned as he put the plane into a series of tight spins. "It's flying," he said. "I'll take it."

"I'm a kid who tried to make my own wings when I was nine, though, so I might not be the best person to judge against," Luke said.

"Two pieces of metal from a droid and a lot of tape," Luke said. "I jumped down into the courtyard. It almost worked, too!"

He grinned and spun the plane again. "Sort of. I didn't need too many stitches."

"Uncle Owen was not happy," Luke said, still grinning.

Luke nodded, no longer smiling. "Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru," he said. "They're gone now, too."

Luke gave her a small smile. "It's not your fault," he said quietly. "I haven't exactly been talking about it."

Luke was paying a little more attention than he absolutely had to on the instrument panel in front of him. "You had enough to handle with Anakin," he said.

"I was already making a hell of an impression," Luke said, fiddling with the controls. "Adding a 'by the way, the Empire killed my guardians and then my teacher a week before I arrived' was just going to make things harder."

Luke shook his head. "Not really," he said, and that was something he wouldn't admit to a lot of people.

Luke flipped the simulator around so that it was heading back towards the runway. "What did my father fly?" he asked. "I mean, his favorite. I know he flew anything he could get his hands on."

"What did they look like?" Luke asked eagerly. "The ships disappeared along with the Jedi."

Luke brought the fighter back down to the ground. "They sound a little like the X-Wing." He frowned. "And a bit like the TIE fighter, too. I guess that makes sense." He grinned as he unstrapped himself from the seat. "I should show you my X-Wing and get the benefit of your expertise."
