Gun Club, noon

Parker opened up the gun range, checked the room, posted the sign, then got out her .Sig and her 9mm and started practicing.

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE.

Pippi tilted her head at the guy.

"I don't think we've met." she said holding out her hand. "I'm Pippi."

"I'm Luke," he replied. "It's nice to meet you." He smiled. "You're not a bad shot yourself."

"Nice to meet you too." she grinned. "And thanks! I'm much better with my flintlocks, but they tend to make people nervous for some reason."

Luke wrinkled up his forehead. "Flintlocks?" he repeated. "I don't know that weapon."

Pippi reaches over to the shelf at her alley and brings back an unloaded flintlock (http://www.flickr.com/photos/strongestgirl/92189976/in/set-72057594048743558/).

"These, they're very old fashioned, but I've been using them for ever so long."

Luke's eyes went wide. "Wow. I thought Dean's piece was an antique."

"I don't think I've seen what Dean uses, so I can't say if his is older. Archie's might have given mine a run for their money in the antique catigory, when he was here, but I think they were cap and ball, which is a little more advanced."

Luke smiled. "I was kidding--Dean's is only 25 years old or so. It's still a blaster. He picked it up on Coruscant when we was there with a class this semester. Back home we don't use non-laser technology any more, for the most part."

"Oh yes! For the flight class, I'd heard about those trips."

"You want to tell a Wookiee what kind of weapon to use?"

"They were arriving in my galaxy way ahead of my time," Luke explained. "So anything they brought back's kinda old from my point of view."

~~Maybe I'd try it after letting him win.~~

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, Dean bought a new gun, but a month later it's 25 years old? I love this place."

"And the really weird part? My father was the one teaching the class."

"Annikins is your papa?" Pippi asked tilting her head. "But we just... 25 years, yeah, I guess that works out huh?"

"Give or take," Luke said, shrugging. "He died before I was born."

"Oh no..." Pippi said furrowing her brow. "I. Do you know what happened?"

"He was killed by the Ethics teacher," Luke said. "Gotta love Fandom, huh?"

"That's definitely tied for first on my list of things that suck."

"What else is up there?" Luke asked, looking concerned.

"I'd rather not talk about it." Pippi said blushing a bit. "But it's over, and highly unlikely to happen again. To anybody. More or less."

Luke nodded, deciding not to push it. "I believe you," he said. "Show me how the flintlock works?"

"Okay!" Pippi said perking up considerably.

She showed luke the parts of the flintlock (http://www.flickr.com/photos/strongestgirl/92189976/in/set-72057594048743558/).

"So the powder goes in the pan here and you put the frizzen down over it to protect it from spilling out and getting wet. This bit here is the hammer and this part of the hammer is called the dog. It holds a bit of flint. When you pull the trigger, it drops the hammer which causes the frizzen to pop up. Then the flint strikes the steal pan and the powder causing a spark which ignites the powder..."

Pippi continues to explain about the flintlock, how it works and how it's more for close up work unless you're VERY consistent with your loading and VERY familiar with a particular piece.

Luke listened attentively, then repeated her instructions back exactly. "Like that?" he concluded.

"That's right! You want to try one? This one shoots up and to the left." She said offing him an unloaded flintlock.

"Up and to the left," Luke repeated, moving to a different alley. He carefully loaded the flintlock and fired, then frowned. "A little more to the left, then that, huh?" he said with a small smile.

Pippi peeked down the alley Luke had fired down.

"Just a bit ya." she grinned.
