School Assembly, Friday Afternoon, The Auditorium

After watching the crowd gather and encouraging them to settle down long enough to listen to people talk, The Tick began to speak.

"Welcome, students and faculty, to our first assembly of the year! We'll be doing these to help impart something to our students. Give them advice, entertainment, and something worthwhile to do on a Friday afternoon!"

"Today you'll be getting advice from several speakers. They are motivational speakers, people who speak and give advice to help you better yourself! They are the tops in their individual fields, respective Everests, and this assemply is your sherpa, helping you scale that mountain to a better you!"

"Some of today's speakers are professional motivational speakers! Some are fellow students with some special advice! And one is a local business owner just looking to help out!"

"I think it's about time to let them do their jobs now. Please give the speakers your undivided attention and have some fun!"

[OOC: Each speaker will have their own thread, plus there will be a Q&A thread at the end of the post for them to ping into. Please wait to ask the speakers questions until the speakers have pinged in.

There are also a couple of general conversation threads for people who don't want to give their undivided attention. :)

Big thanks to all of the speakers!]

"Nothing to be sorry for. I never had any, so it's not like I'm missing anything." He patted her shoulder reassuringly. "You know, I might have to stick around and meet this Jonathan. He sounds like my kinda guy."

Evie gave him a look of dismay. "Oh, no. No, really. You don't have to. I'm certain he'll..." Get into quite enough trouble on his own!

"Why, Evie." Jack smiled very innocently. "Are you afraid I'm going to get your brother in trouble?"

Evie rolled her eyes. "Perhaps I'm afraid he'll get you in trouble. Or you'll get *me* in trouble, together! That's usually the way it seems to work."

"I promise not to get you in troube," he said, conveniently ignoring the other options. "If I'm here. And if I'm not here, I can't anyway. Probably. So you don't have to worry about it."

"Well, where will you go, if you're not going to be here? Back to the future?" Evie looked envious. "Can you do that?"

"I have no iidea." Jack frowned as he considered the question. "Probably not. I've got a ride back home at graduation, but I think I'm stuck here until then," he explained, then laughed. "I'll probably stay. It might be very entertaining."

"Ah. Well, if you are here, and Jonathan is here," Evie said determinedly, "You must promise that if you get arrested, you shan't call me for bail money. I don't have any."

Re: Before the Assembly

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"We won't get arrested," Jack said confidently. "I almost never get caught, and I when I do I can generally convince whoever's doing the catching to let me go."

Evie dropped her head on the back of the chair. "Oh, that's very reassuring."

"iIsn't it?" Jack patted her head. "Don't worry, there's only so much trouble to be found on this island, and only one weekend to do it in. How bad could it get?"

Yes, this was Jack attempting to be comforting.

"Oh good. Then I shan't have a problem finding you in the only Jail, shall I?" Evie sighed, then smiled. "What else have you been doing lately, Jack?"

"Not much. Classes, pretended to be a flower monk, sang at Caritas, traded a cookie for a handshake, sat and watched the storm." He paused, then grinned. "All things which didn't land me in jail."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
"A flower monk? What is a flower monk, and why would you pretend to be one?" Evie blinked. "Someone actually gave you a cookie for a handshake? Why am I not surprised at all?"

"We had to pretend to be someone we weren't in Constant Vigilance today, so I was a novice flower monk named Jessie." He leaned forward so his chin was resting on the back of her seat and confided, "He was very shy. And I was trying for a kiss, but I had to settle for a handshake. It was quite sad."

Re: Before the Assembly

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Tragic," Evie said severely, shaking her head at him, eyes dancing. "I admire the fortitude of the person who wouldn't give you a kiss. And did the flower monk make any new friends?"

"A man named Bob with a terrible American accent tried to make him into a real man, an oil man, but he didn't succeed. Jesse's really into flowers." Jack tipped his head so he could look up at her, and made an attempt to look sad. "It was very disheartening. I don't know if I'll ever recover."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, well. I'll be sure and tell that to every pretty girl-- and boy, mustn't forget them-- who asks me how you're doing." Evie gave him a wry look. "We mustn't let all that disheartenment go to waste, correct?"

Re: Before the Assembly

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I like the way you think, Evie. Thanks." He shifted enough to give her a quick kiss on the cheek, before sitting back, keeping one elbow on her chair.

"JACK!" Evie settled down immediately, not anyone to stare at her, then shook her finger at him. "It's not the way I think, it's the way Jonathan thinks, so I recognize it. He used to take me to the Park to flirt with the other children's nannies." She rolled her eyes. "I've decided. You have to leave the Island while he's here. Really, you do."

Re: Before the Assembly

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Now I have to stay," he said firmly. "I need to meet him."

Re: Before the Assembly

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Evie attempted to give him a big-eyed, sad look. Blinking. Mournfully. "Please? No. You'll, you won't like him at all. Really you won't."

Re: Before the Assembly

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack just grinned at her and sat back in his seat. "We'll see," he said, not at all reassuringly.

Re: Before the Assembly

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Evie turned back around with a sigh and a roll of her eyes. "Maybe I should leave the Island," she muttered.
