Ethics (Thursday, September 28, 6th period)

Vader swept into the room precisely on time, slamming the door hard enough to reverberate down the hallway. He dropped a box of cookies onto his desk.

"Today we talk about how a strict sense of right and wrong interferes in efficiency," he said, pacing the room and clearly intending to intimidate as many students as possible. "Employees who do not believe that there will be consequences for their incompetence become lazy, stupid, and easily replaceable."

Vader took the box of cookies from his desk and passed it around the room. "Each of you has a cookie," he said. "You will spend the rest of the class period using the tactics of fear, shame and guilt to get the other people in this classroom to give you their cookies." And yes, that word sounded incredibly strange coming from him. "Whoever has the most cookies at the end of the class will get to keep them."

He crossed his arms over his chest. "Are these tactics unethical? Does it matter if you get what you want?"

Jack listened, eyeing off his cookie, wondering 1) if he ate his cookie, would people be more likely to give him theirs, and 2) if tactics other than fear, shame, and guilt were allowed. As the lecture continued, he quickly concluded that they weren't.

He was pretty much ignoring Vader's attempt at intimidation in favour of mentally bemoaning being cut off from his main skills.

Rory was poking at her cookie and seriously wondering if anyone should be eating them.

Aeryn's just a little disturbed at how easy could be. Okay, more than just a little. Also, she's wishing against the weapons ban for once as it's the only thing keeping her from carrying a gun at all times, and that woul be sure to get people to give her their cookies.

Seely ate his cookie.

Like to see someone get it now.

Jamie might rolling his eyes. It's tough to tell in the giant helmet he's wearing.

He is breathing heavily but it's doubtful he's that excited about the lecture.

John ate his cookie. Aw, crap. On the bad side, he probably didn't need the sugar. On the good side, he had a napkin wrapped with three more in his pocket.

"The part that says that certain people," he points to Bel and his shimmered bag of cookies, "can bring their own cookies to class. Kinda negates the single cookie per person if one introduces an imbalance like that. We're all going to lose."

"These cookies," he said, pointing at them, which are handwavily different, "are not from this class. These cookies were on my person when I walked through that door. So because I walked through the door with these cookies before I even knew what the assignment was, that puts me in violation of said assignment?"

He paused to let that sink in. "And since other cookies were introduced in addition to the original batch of cookies, then, by your own words, since I only took one of your cookies as per your instructions, and since you do not care if Bel introduces additional cookies and upsets the status quo with an unreasonable stockpile of cookies, then I fail to see how my bringing additional cookies into class violates directions."

Sam ignored her cookie, even though it was taunting her, and took a head count of how many people would need to eat for a hypothetical in-class picnic.
