Rory sleepily toddled into the library, and immediately set herself up behind the desk with her coffee and her laptop.

Not, you know, together. Because there were keys and liquid and no.

Rory shrugged. "I mean it all still hurts, but I'm actually, like, leaving my room and stuff. It's an improvement."

"You got so much dumped on you so fast," Angela said. "It'd be really callous of you if you didn't still hurt. Anakin was here a month ago, you know?"

Rory nodded. "But Lukey helps. And I'm sort of...calmer about Vader. So yay."

Angela sighed. "Yay. I'm not. Just the idea of what you say he's done ... I think I need to stop by his office, so I can see him and he's not like this imaginary boogeyman I keep frightening myself with. Does that make any sense at all?"

Rory nodded. "He's pretty scary-looking as it is, though."

"I've heard," Angela said. "I just think I'll be calmer once I see for myself." She shrugged, as her reasoning didn't entirely make sense even to herself. "Today's his class, isn't it?"

"Yup," Rory said, rolling her eyes. "I took him a Zen garden earlier this week."

Angela had to smile at that. "Did he like it?"

"I don't think so," Rory said. "I told him to take out his frustrations by raking sand rather than blowing up planets, and left."

Angela made her eyes very big in a kind of false innocence. "That was very considerate of you."

"Wasn't it?" Rory said. "I also took him doughnuts last week. Did you know he doesn't eat?"

"Don't you have to?," Angela asked. "I mean, he must, or he'd die, if he's alive."

"I think his suit helps," Rory said. "He's got a helmet, and you can hear him breathing and it's abnormally regular, so I think he's on a respirator or something. So maybe he has like an IV or something that we can't see."

"Could be," Angela said. "Or he's some kind of cyborg and doesn't eat, and the breathing's to ... I don't know, cool his battery or something."

Rory shook her head. "He told me he's human. Or, well, I asked if he is and he said, 'in a manner of speaking.'"

Angela made a face. "Sounds incredibly charming."

She was starting to regret the whole concept of going to talk to him.

"Oh, yeah, he's a sweetheart," Rory said, rolling her eyes. "But it's not hard to get under his skin, so to speak. Though I didn't see him throw anything this week."

"He usually throws things?," Angela asked. Actually it might have been more of a squeak.

"He threw the doughnuts, and the first time I confronted him after class he threw a book," Rory told her. "Not at me or anything, though."

"Oh, then, that's okay," Angela said before biting back her sarcasm.

"Are you going to keep giving him stuff?" That was asked in the tone one might use to ask, "Are you sure you need to take your hamburger back from that lion?"

Angela managed not to tell Rory to take up macrame if she wanted something to do, though she had to bite her tongue to stop from talking. If this was how Rory had to grieve, it was how Rory had to grieve, and she knew her friend well enough to know that trying to talk her out of it would only make her do it more.

"Okay," she said instead, keeping her face blank and adding, in the least graceful transition ever, "So have they announced the new student council types yet?"

"Nope, but it's not like our class matters," Rory pointed out.

"It'll be nice to know for the Peters and Isabel, though," Angela said, sounding pretty lame. She looked at her shoes. "Can you tell I have absolutely no idea what to say to you about the whole Vader thing?"

Rory laughed just a trifle hysterically. "No, I know. I mean, what is there to say? It's not like it's at all a normal situation. I mean, if this was happening to anyone else, I'd have no idea what to say about any of it. But you're here and that's the important part. And for what it's worth, I'm not being as, um, reckless the whole thing now as I was."
