Good work with the societies. This class we will discuss family. First, I have an article that I would like to pass out that describes two different types of families, then we will talk about what it means to be a family.

Homework: Describe your familial structure. Is it patrilineal or matrilineal? How would your family be different if it was switched from the norm?

Well done with the quiz. I will hand those back next class, but most of you got at least 80's. This class, we will be looking at yet more slides. This time, we are focusing on a site right near the Nile.

Homework: Describe the process of embalming and mummifying in full detail, as next class we will be looking at mummys!

Today's lesson we will be studying the similarities between Greek and Latin's grammar structure. As you can see, both languages are similar except that Greek has a different alphabet, and there is no aorist tense. Obviously, there is a reason for this, and we will see that once comparing the two. Open up your books, please.

Homework: No homework for today :)

Erm, Professor, which assignment is it that I'm missing? I thought I got all caught up, but I can do it again.

Late for class, Chihaya slipped into the desk at the back. He pulled out his notebook for the discussion/homework and found he was stuck for most of the lecture.

How did you explain that you are living and having sex with your partner who was also your legal guardian for Earthian recordkeeping purposes?

He didn't think that would go over really well and ended up having fabricate a lie which made him sick to his stomach to do.

*Carefully watches all the slides, taking copious notes and only doodling/staring at the teacher a little. Homework when turned in is again very thoroughly detailed.*

Cameron enters the room and walks up to Daniel, looking slightly uncomfortable. "Sir, could I talk to you about last Friday's class?"

Re: LINGUISTICS

[identity profile] wraithbaitjohn.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so what I'm getting from the reading is that they got rid of that aorta tense because... well... who the hell needs 9 present tenses? If you're doing it now, you're doing it now. Who needs 9 different nows?

Do you think they had a quantum mirror? Maybe that explains why you have to say it so many ways - so many possible outcomes.

Otherwise, it's just silly.

(And which assignment am I missing? Is it from the day I got to spend the night at the emergency vet room? I asked for an extension on that and never heard back. Just point me at it and I'll get caught up.)

[Whoops, turned it in above!]

Homework turned in - greatly detailed with a little note thanking Dr. Jackson for being such an inspiring teacher. *blushes a little*

*The cover sheet has CLASSIFIED written on the front of it in large red letters, and inside, is a long, well-written essay, explaining how her original family is patrilineal (although mom held the real power at home), and how with three older brothers, she was the spoilt one, and didn't feel like she was the least important in the family. She also throws in that her family was neolocal, and moved around before settling in DC. For the changing of the family, she also includes a witty and satirical look at her "new" family of SGC Refugees*

Beka hands in a tidily hand-written summary of Egyptian mummification practices with specific references to the implements for removal of organs, the recipe for embalming fluid, and a cryptic note about protecting the students from Snakes.
