Library [09/14]

Rory opened the library a few minutes early, sweeping in a bit rain-splattered and windblown, but actually smiling.

She settled herself behind the desk, and after straightening the sign displaying the new aides, set to work rereading her favorite passages from The Complete Dorothy Parker.

She was carefully scrawling notes in the margins, and hoping that Ms. Readman or Willow wouldn't come along and chastise her for this bad habit.

"Hello." Lavender bounced up to the desk.

"Hi," Rory said warmly. "Can I help you find something?"

"I'm looking a for a cookbook... not quite sure which kind, though." Lavender to continued to bounce a little. "Oh and I'm Lavender by the way, I don't think we've met?"

"Rory," she said, waving a little. "Nice to meet you. Okay, what are you looking to make?"

"Oh! Is Ms. Gilmore Danes your mum?" she asked.
"Cornish pasties and Spotted Dick." she explained "I know how to make them I just can't rely on my memory for the measurements."

Rory nodded. "You're one of her students, huh?" she asked, rolling her chair over to the car catalog. "Okay, let's see....we have Traditional British Cooking and Recipes for the Nation's Favourite Food: Britain's Top 100 Dishes. Sound like they'd be in there, maybe?"

"Yeah and I met Bucky in the diner this weekend. Your mum is really nice. Her clas has been pretty useful thus far and it's still September." Lavender smiled.

"That certainly sounds promising. Just point me in the right direction?"

"Over that way, in the 350's," Rory replied, smiling. "You got to meet Bucky? Isn't he great?"

Lavender looked where Rory was pointing. "Excellent, thanks."
Lavender nodded. "He's beautiful. I've been a t boarding school for years so seeing little ones is kind of a novelty." she grinned. "He's a sweet tempered little thing from what I saw."

"Very," Rory replied. "I named him!"

Lavender grinned. "Ooh that's fun. I'm an only child myself. What was the inspiration?"

"My late step-grandfather and Starbucks coffee," Rory replied. "His full name's William Starbucks Gilmore-Danes."

"Hee fond of coffee?" Lavender grinned.

Door shows up during 4th period, since she has no classes today. It seems like a good time to return her book on library classification systems -- and then wander through the shelves to ~~see if she can find out what 'boogaloo' means~~ test out whether she's really learned anything.

"Hey, Door," Rory calls softly from the desk. "Are you finding everything okay?"

"Sort of?" Door carries a book over from the 790's. "I've found quite a bit about breakdancing, but I'm still not entirely sure what a boogaloo is supposed to be."

There's only one response to that.

"...why are you researching the boogaloo?"

"It's in the name of my Constant Vigilance class," Door explains. "The Doctor said it had something to do with a breakdancing film."

Rory laughed. "It's part of the title of a sequel to a film, yeah. I think it's just the teacher being silly in this case. Rather than just calling it Constant Vigilance 2, he tacked on the 'Electric Boogaloo' bit, too."

Door frowns. "But what is an electric boogaloo? I gather it's a sort of dance, but why is it electric? You don't have to plug yourself into a socket or anything, do you? That'd be painful."

"No," Rory giggles. "It's a dance, and it's just called that. We have a lot of weird names for dances, for some reason."

Door taps the book on breakdancing. "I noticed. And weird dances. They look interesting, but I don't think I could do most of the things in here without breaking my neck."

"They're best left to pros," Rory agrees. "There's one where the dancer's spinning on their head. I have no idea how they do that without hurting themselves."

"I've met people who could probably duplicate that with magic, but on one's own... yeah, that's impressive. Or scary. A bit of both, really."
