The lab is set up with four computer stations in the middle of the room and desks in the back.

"Last week we talked about what the internet is, and this week we're going to learn how to get to the internet." Abby smiled and turned to a list on the white board behind her. "The main kind of connections we're going to study and try out today are dial-up, cable, DSL, and Wi-Fi."

After explaining each of those in more detail, Abby walked to the stations. "You're going to get a chance to try each of these to see the pros and cons. Each station has a different internet service providers or ISP. They offer varying levels of help, annoyance and in some cases, a lot of shiny CD's mailed to your house. Station one and four will be ones you will have to connect to, station two and three you'll already be connected to the internet. I'd like for you to work alone at the first station ~~for my own sanity~~ and with partners for the other three."

"Feel free to ask myself or Mac any questions." Abby walked back up to the front and pointed to a spot on her desk. "I'd like a written paragraph from you about what you liked and hated. Doesn't have to be long or spelled right, just have it on my desk by the end of class."

[~~Wait for OCD please.~~ OCD up! I'll be playing the part of AOL today, which is why you're working alone on that station. Ping into the thread and then I'll guide you through connecting. I should be on all day give or take time for eating and stuff.]

More beeping and the screen turned blue.

Abby came over and stared at Ray. "You got the blue screen of death. What happened?"

"It asked me if I wanted to erase, I told it no." Ray glared at the screen. "It's a defective computer."

"Really?" Abby pressed a button and the screen turned it's normal color and the AOL screen came back up. "Looks fine to me!"

Ray glared at the screen again. "Stupid computer." This time, he didn't touch the keyboard.

The window popped up and the running man showed up on the side of the screen.

He thought about that for a minute.

And then he typed : StupidRunningMan. And then he typed a password.

The password showed up in little asteriks on the screen and then a window popped up.

What is your mother's father's aunt's madien name?
What high school did the 34th president attend?
What was the name of the cat that your weird next door neighbor had?

Ray stared again.

He finally picked the second question and type : I hate you.

The window accepted that answer and the running man took off across the screen.

"Before I turn thirty, please!" Ray exclaimed and waved his hands at the screen.

The running man continues his trek across the screen.

"You are kidding me," he said and gaped at the screen. He tried re-entering the password very carefully.

There was a beep and the error message popped up again.

That was easy enough.

Ray typed : I hate you into the prompt.

Incorrect answer. Your account has been locked. Please call our offices at 1-800-AOL-PWNS to speak to a representative.

"Oh, to hell with you," Ray said and resisted the urge to pound on the keyboard.

"How'd you do, Ray?" Abby asked.

"Fine and dandy," he said, still glaring at the screen. "It won't let me sign on but I didn't really want to anyway."

"Which is an important lesson to learn. AOL is not really worth it." Abby smiled. "Go and finish the stations and write your paragraph and you're good for the day."

"Also since you didn't destroy my computer during this, you get a Caf-Pow! Grab one of the cups on the back table."

"Thanks," he said, shot one more glare at the AOL screen and headed over to the other stations.
