Heroism, Humanism & Hijinks: Literature in Action - Week 2, Period 5

"Welcome back," Thursday greeted as she handed out a few sheets of paper. "What you'll find on this paper is an explanation of nursery rhymes and a list of several popular nursery rhymes," she explained. "We'll use these as a warm up. Nursery rhymes are taught to young children to introduce them to reading and understanding narrative. Pick a nursery rhyme from the list. Now I want you to pretend that you're a part of the rhyme. How would you react? What would you do to interfere if you had the chance? You can do this alone or in a group."

At the end of class, Thursday dismissed them, but not before telling them about next week's class. "Next week we're moving into the action part of this class. Please make sure you have read Jane Eyre by then."

[OOC: So sorry about posting this late. I forgot to post it before falling asleep. Also, you the player do not have to read any of the books. I'll provide a brief synopsis and character list.]

The twins looked over the list of nursery rhymes with skeptical looks on their faces. "Why does this spider climb up the water spout once it fell? Wouldn't it be too wet to climb?"

"Okay, in Rockabye Baby, I would get that kid out of the tree before the whole 'And down will come baby, cradle and all,' bit. What kind of neglectful parent puts their infant in a tree, anyway?"

"Peter Peter seems to need marriage counseling. If one is too poor to support a wife, it is likely not the best solution to simply leave her in a pumkin shell and hope that she'll be able to fend for herself, and that everything would work out for the best. I would advise him to look for a better job, or perhaps talk to the bank for a loan, and thus be able to provide for his family while still allowing her to be an active member of society."

Billy was still shaken up by his run in with Vader earlier, but tried to put it from his mind.

"This rhyme, Hush little baby, it sounds like the baby's still crying despite the bribes." Billy said. "Have they bothered to check it's diaper? If it has a fever or if it's hungry?"

"Well Humpty Dumpty was never specified as an egg. So maybe if there were just a few people that where good surgens there they might just have to fix a PERSON named Humpty Dumpty. I really don't think it was a good idea to send the King's horses as the first people to try to put him back together. A good doctor is really all he needed."

"Well," Dean started, looking over Sing a Song of Sixpence, "if I were there when the birds-fleeing-the-pie thing happened, I'd probably make it a priority to round them all up before they pecked off any noses. And if I couldn't, I'd certainly recommend that the help doing work outside keeps an eye out for giant blackbirds flying at their faces."

"If I was Jack, I'd want to know why Jill tumbled down the hill after me, instead of going to get help when I was lying on the ground, head broken and bleeding. Not to mention that, because she was tumbling, the pail of water spilled everywhere, making the whole trip useless."

Door frowns. "I expect I'd try to stop the farmer's wife cutting off mouse tails with a carving knife. It's cruel to begin with; add in that they're blind and it's hardly fair, is it."

Not to mention the whole setup reminds her far too closely of the sort of things that she's heard certain you-could-almost-call-them-people like to do to rats.
