Office Hours, Tuesday (5th and 6th Period)

Dragging her materials to her office, Roslin settled in at her desk. She had managed to find a few journal articles she found very interesting, and was currently reworking her lesson plan for next week to work them in. She was also contemplating the need for an assistant.

Getting spoiled, Laura, she thought with a shake of her head. As she settled in to read, she was totally interruptable.

Peter blushed slightly. "Yes, ma'am. I -err - don't know what happened."

"Well, I'm glad to see you, ah, back to normal." Laura smiled. Withdrawing a blank index card, she slid it across the desk with a pen. "Name, contact information, past social studies classes, and one thing you'd like to share." Her smile twitched briefly lopsided before returning to normal. "Please."

She then made a note next to Peter's name in the attendance book. It looked remarkably like a horseshoe.

"Me too," Peter said with obvious relief. "The stables are awfully boring."

He filled out the card.

He looked up. "I've not been to school since I was twelve, but I was privately tutored. Should I include that under social studies classes?"

She nodded. "Anything that falls under the category...which, I'm coming to understand, covers a wide range."

Peter smiled at her. "Did you expect the...diversity of the school before you arrived?" He added 'diplomacy, etiquette, history, trade relations, geography, and governance' to his card.

"I was told there were gifted students here. I think there were two different uses in play."

"I think you might be correct," Peter said. "But when there aren't invasions or people turning into random animals - it's usually very quiet around here. One gets used to the oddities at least."

"Oddity, I think I'm used to. Strange? That will take some adjustment." Laura chuckled. She reviewed his card. When she looked back up at him, her brow was knitted, a bit of concern in her eyes. "A knight of the realm? You seem very young to have earned it."

Peter smiled, still amused by the assumption. "My world is more medieval. We aren't considered children after about 10 there and even so, it was a difficult time. I was knighted on the battlefield."

Leaning forward, Roslin regarded the young man with a new regard. She knew well enough that war changed a person; it wasn't until the Cylon attack that she learned how much. "I hope you enjoy the class...and I hope you find it useful when you return home."

"I'm sure I will, ma'am," Peter replied with a nod and smile. "I was happy to see it offered though the stellar portion won't apply to me when I go home."

"Stellar or not, the basic principles seem to stay the same. To be honest, I'd rather call it international relations, as each system we'll be studying forms their own nation." She waved her hand and shook her head. "But that's getting into semantics that we'll definitely discuss next week."

"Nations are something I understand better," Peter replied with a grin. "I'll look forward to next class. Thank you for understanding about the pony situation."

"You're quite welcome. And thank you for stopping by." She rose and extended her hand. "A pleasure to meet you, Peter."

"The pleasure's all mine, ma'am," Peter said, shaking her hand then stepping back to bow slightly. He smiled and stepped out of her office.
