Constant Vigilance #7: Friday the 25th, Morning. A Classroom.

The Doctor rubbed his hands together happily from the chair of his desk. The classroom was a circle of chairs, as always, and there was something special next to the projector today.

A very large chocolate frosted chocolate cake with chocolate chips, fresh from Jeff, God of Biscuits. There was a stack of paper plates next to the cake, along with napkins and plastic forks.

"Thank you all for making this first class of mine absolutely fantastic," he said. "Help yourself to some cake, and once we all get situated, we'll have something special for the day."

Once everyone has helped themselves to the cake and gotten seated, the Doctor stood and switched on the projecter. The imaged projected was of a fellow in a tan uniform with a beret and a stylish moustache.

"That is my dear friend Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. Or, at least, how he looked approxamitely thirty years ago. He's the head of an organization you may or may not have heard of. The United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, or UNIT for short. I have no idea what their public relations team pretends that UNIT actually does, but I'll state it in plain English. Whenever the world encounters something extraordinary, UNIT is there. Silurians discovered underneath a nuclear power station, Yeti in the London underground, Morgaine attempting to hijack a nuclear missile with the help of a demonic being called the Destroyer, they're always there. Just this past week, Terileptils were attempting to steal artifacts from the Smithsonian, and UNIT was there again, as well as my dear friend, and eventually myself as well. Now, I could go on about UNIT for a good long while, as I was once their scientific advisor while I was exiled to Earth. But I won't bore you with a lot of old stories at this time. Instead, I have something very special indeed. Even more special than the cake."

The Doctor fiddled with a knob on the projecter, and the image of the Brigadier faded away. "Today's activity is merely wrapping up what we've already covered. I want everyone to say one thing they've learned, one thing they'd like to learn more about, and one fact about another member of the class that they discovered thanks to this class. Sounds easy, right? Well, after that, I'd like everyone to come up with an answer to the following question: What is my purpose?"

He didn't even skip a beat. "Simple question, really. What is it that drives you? You're all very smart young adults. I'm sure you know exactly what your ambitions stem from. If not, make something plausible up, please. And as always, feel free to ask me any questions you like, especially given my absence last week. Everything clear? Fantastic."

Phoebe was writing in her notebook, and she may also be casting contemplative glances at Cole.

Once she'd answered the questions and stated her "purpose", Nadia ended up falling asleep in her chair.

There may have even been snoring involved.

One thing you've learned, one thing you'd like to learn more about, and one fact about another member of the class that you discovered thanks to this class.

Phoebe thought about this.

"One thing I've learned in the class is that there are a lot more beings out there than I could ever have imagined. ~~I will spend the next few weeks busily updating the Book of Shadows~~. I don't think I can pick only one thing that this class has made me want to learn more about. As for facts about someone else in this class? I have a blanket one. I've learned that no matter how much we each try to pretend we don't, we all have one secret we don't talk about. Not so much because we're trying to hide it, but because we're so used to it being there as part of our internal self that it doesn't occur to us to reveal it."

Cedric thinks about this for a moment and then starts to speak.

"I've learned that there are worlds far more dangerous than my own out there. If I could, I'd also like to learn more about those worlds because I've been in one place for so long and I really didn't know so much else was happening. And I learned that Pippi is a strong young woman and helped bring down a werewolf."

"I've learned that there are other kinds of vampires and werewolves out there, and that they aren't all vulnerable to the same thing," Willow said. "I'd love to learn more about robots just because of the computer thing, and I've learned that Walter's a good person to go to for help with those who have a drinking problem of the blood variety."

"I've learned that there can be 'good' cyborgs, on a sliding scale of 'no cyborgs are good' to 'Oh Em Gee Daleks Bad'. I'd like to learn more about combating the threat of cyborgs. Oh, and Tim protects THe Fae. With a magic swordwand. In Brooklyn."

"I've learned that, when in doubt, run. Which doesn't always work. I'd like to learn a bit more about what to do when you can't run, and I learned that some people in this class actually have stranger family backgrounds than mine, though possibly not by much."

"I learned that some plants are humanoid," Kaylee said. "I think I'd like to learn more about robots and such cause talkin' to machines is somethin' I often do. Be nice if they actually talk back."

"What did I learn? I learned that other ends of the universe are just as strange as my end was. Or is." Stark paused to think of what else to say. "I'd like to know more about...everything? Or...I missed the class with the plants, so I think I'd like to learn about other sentient plants. I've never met a plant that wasn't a Delvian." Another pause. "And I learned Sakurazaki could fly. Which I didn't know before, even though we were in the same cabin."

"I've learned the universe is a lot bigger then even I imagined. I think I'd like to learn more about surviving out there." Isabel grinned, "I've also learned that if I ever have to face a dragon, I want Cedric around."

"I learned that you can never be sure you know someone, because everyone has something they're hiding. I mean, I knew that already, but I think I learned from this class that it might not always be a bad thing. I'd like to learn more about everything, because you can never know too much. And I learned that Peter and his siblings led a rebellion and rebuilt an entire country."

"I learned that something doesn't need to be magical to be weird, I'd like to learn more about how the whole time travel thing works, and, I learned that Kaylee has faith in her friends, which is a good thing."

"I've learned that Janitors are not unique to Earth. I'd like to learn more about ~~werewolves~~ The Doctor's space ship... And I discovered that Cedric used to take classes from a werewolf."
